Giants Place Tyrod Taylor, Darren Waller on IR

The New York Giants placed QB Tyrod Taylor and TE Darren Waller on injured reserve, meaning they will miss at least the next four weeks.

Taylor injured his rib cage against the New York Jets when he was brought down hard by DL Quinton Jefferson and linebacker C.J. Mosley. Taylor was hospitalized but released the following day.

Waller injured his hamstring against the Jets and left the game during the first half. — 4:30 p.m.

Montez Sweat Gets $98M Extension

Chicago Bears edge Montez Sweat has agreed to a four-year extension worth $98 million, with more than $72 million guaranteed. The total deal could be worth as much as $105 million.

Chicago acquired Sweat from the Washington Commanders before Tuesday’s trade deadline for a 2024 second-round pick.

Sweat, whose 2023 salary is $11.5 million, was scheduled to be a free agent after this season.

In four-and-a-half seasons, he has 85 quarterback hits, 35.5 sacks and nine forced fumbles. — 1 p.m.
