Report: Odell Beckham Jr. Will Meet With, Take Physical for Jets
Analysis 4/8/23
Things remain quiet on the Aaron Rodgers front, but there was a bit of noise Saturday concerning the New York Jets and Odell Beckham Jr.
The free agent wide receiver, the No. 1 player on The 33rd Team's list of top remaining free agents, will fly to the New York area Monday to meet with the team and take a physical, NFL Media reported.
The Jets were one of the teams with whom Beckham met when he worked out in Arizona on March 10. His goal then was to show prospective NFL employers he was fully recovered from a torn ACL suffered while with the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LV.
Beckham did not play during the 2022 season. There was some interest late from the Dallas Cowboys, but they instead decided on T.Y. Hilton after learning that Beckham wasn’t yet 100 percent.
In mid-March, Beckham took to Twitter to dispute reports that he sought $20 million per year for his next contract. He simply said he wanted more than a $4 million offer he'd received from another team.
Later last month, Beckham began following new Jets receiver Allen Lazard on Instagram. Beckham and Lazard (who played with Rodgers in Green Bay) have a strong relationship with Rodgers and were reportedly included on a list of players Rodgers wanted the Jets to sign.
During his March 15 appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers denied the report calling it “stupid.”
Rodgers has spoken glowingly of Beckham in the past. In a 2021 appearance on McAfee’s show, Rodgers described his relationship with Beckham as more than just acquaintances.
“We’ve been friends for a long time, kept in touch and met at some events and just, you know, sent encouraging messages,” Rodgers said. “During the seasons, over the years.”
