The Jets Should Be Happy to Have Joe Flacco

The New York Jets should be happier than BLEEP for this period of time since Zach Wilson has been injured.
What is the Jets' Plan?
While Wilson is out, it should be Joe Flacco at quarterback. He came from the University of Delaware via the University of Pittsburgh. He’s a Jersey guy, a Philly guy and I coached him for a couple of years, so I know him inside and out.
Flacco was a first-round selection with the Baltimore Ravens. I believe he went to three AFC Championship games with the Ravens. He won the Super Bowl after the 2012 season. As quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens was named the MVP of that Super Bowl!
Breaking Down Flacco’s Game
Coming out of college, my evaluation of Joe Flacco was very simple—a big man with a big, accurate arm, a good decision maker and really deceptive athleticism for such a big man. He still has all of those qualities, with the exception of athleticism and the ability to move, even within the pocket.Â
So for the New York Jets, you keep Flacco healthy. Keep him upright, and good things should happen.
Wilson’s Return
Then you get Zach Wilson back at some point down the road, and his development will continue to take place. Their early schedule is tough in the regular season. They begin play with Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.Â
It might be a little uphill for them, but I like the Jets. Maybe they can slip a couple of wins, maybe 2-3, in those first 4-5 games. Then they’ll get their QB back.Â
But that will be a decision.
When Zach Wilson is healthy, when do they start playing him? Especially if things are going pretty well, and they’re at .500 or better.Â
If they are under .500, they will play Wilson when he’s healthy. But if you're .500 or better with Flacco, you might keep that thing going for a few more weeks. And then, pre-practice, post-practice—even during practice a little bit—Wilson is still developing for the New York Jets football team.
