Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Displays average overall athleticism. Lacks true standout explosion and long speed, which allows faster ball carriers to get to the edge before he can cut them off. Plays wild and does not have enough body control or change of direction ability to compensate, resulting in over pursuing and missed tackles. Adequate flexibility in his lower body. Possesses adequate play strength when engaging blockers at the point of attack.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Regularly communicates with teammates to make adjustments based on the offensive set. Displays average closing speed and pursuit angles once he has made his read. He is more of a block avoider than a block shedder due to his size and length making him susceptible to being swallowed up by linemen. When he does have to engage with linemen, he uses strength and above the line physicality to hold his ground and clog the hole to prevent clean running lanes from opening. His change of direction and overall speed hinder his ability to cover running backs in space, and his size makes him a size mismatch against tight ends. In zone coverage he displays good depth in his drops and has adequate awareness and route recognition over the middle of the field. He has not been utilized as a blitzer often and does use his hands much or have a concrete plan off attack, and as a result most of his pressures are a result of scheme and being unblocked.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Appeared in 49 career games at Auburn, starting 23 of them. Saw extensive action on special teams throughout his career. Finished the 2020 season as the SEC's third leading tackler. Aligned primarily in the box as one of the middle linebackers in Auburn's nickel defense and would bump out into the slot or out wide to cover tight ends if the situation called for it. Projects as a scheme versatile backup linebacker, and can gain a more significant role by improving his angles in pursuit and his ability to release from blocks. Has the mentality and physical play style to be a core special teams player and will need to perform in that role to remain in the NFL.
