Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Above the line instincts, frequently makes the right decision as a runner, active reader of fronts and is very quick to read/react to defensive threats in the open field. Above the line motor/ effort, never gives up on a play, will reverse field if the gaps are closed and run plays out to their conclusion to gain additional yards. Adequate toughness, will finish a run with a hit when necessary to gain yards, but will look to bounce runs and avoid contact as a first port of call.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Adequate overall athletic ability, with adequate explosiveness and above the line speed. Average COD, not massively nimble on his feet, most effective once he’s up to top speed. Adequate body control and average bend/flexibility, not the most flexible, looks a touch stiff when attempting to pull his hip away from defenders or tip-toe along the sideline. Limited play strength, doesn’t enter contact with much ferocity and will struggle to gain yards in contact.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Limited ball security, 4 fumbles across his college career. Outstanding path discipline, patient and allows his blockers to set runs up, plays with above the line decision making consistently making the right choice to pursue to the edge or cutback inside. Limited inside run performance, natural tendency is to bounce outside and shy away from interior gaps, when he does work inside is slower navigating the tight spaces and has limited play strength to win inside-the-tackles engagements. Above the line outside run ability, will be effective on OZ/ stretch/ pitch/ toss, has above the line play speed to get to the edge and plays with outstanding path discipline and above the line instincts to read the defense and make the best decision to progress the ball upfield. Above the line ability to create on his own, if holes are shut doesn’t give up on a play, favorite move is to bounce outside or switch opposite field to run and find the space, will frequently make positive gains on the backside of the play through using this playmaking instinct. Adequate MYM, has enough agility to make defenders miss with shimmies/ head fakes and subsequent burst/speed. Average finisher in the open field, isn’t a power threat so once in contact will struggle to break free and make positive gains. Above the line receiving ability, effective on screens/swings, catches the ball securely with above the line hands and is quick to turn his focus upfield. Deficient Pass Pro, has adequate lateral agility to mirror defenders, but otherwise has little ability to execute the assignment: UOH is poor, general instinctive actions involve throwing a shoulder with his head down or trying to cut low, both usually whiff entirely.
