Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Limited instincts in all phases, is slow to plant and engage, looks tentative. Will gift a good share of penalties pre-snap when trying to rush the passer, and in deep coverage when athletically and technically stretched. Adequate motor/effort, will hustle in pursuit and stay active in coverage to the whistle. Adequate toughness through contact, willing competitor who’ll take on much bigger players in the Run game and as a blitzer vs. Pass.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Average overall athletic ability, with above the line lateral agility, adequate explosiveness, COD and suddenness. Electric player on his feet, particularly when blitzing or coming downhill to challenge outside runs; easily can evade OTs and TEs with lateral agility/ quickness allowing him to make plays in the flats around the LOS. Average hip fluidity and limited bend, can flip his hips 180 to initially stick with Seam/Gos, but limited 45/90 degree COD will cause him to lose adequate players in Trail Man. Adequate play strength, has enough attitude and power to hold his ground on stretch runs or against pulling blockers.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Average Press technique, has the play strength and tenacity to compete in this area but scheme limited his exposure. Average backpedal, looks a touch uncomfortable with limited burst to close and plant to drive, will likely struggle to transition in shallow/deep zone coverage. Limited capability to cover the slot in off coverage, has limited size, instincts and foot speed. Adequate run support, comes downhill from robber/ off slot positions with tenacity. Above the line lateral agility and adequate play strength means he can evade and/or take on blockers with adequate pursuit to close on ballcarriers. Should be able to hold up as a 7th run defender in sub packages. Limited ball skills with limited ball tracking, makes poor decisions around the ball either through tentativeness or engaging his man too early, frequently inviting a flag.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Qwuantrezz Knight is a Sixth-Year Graduate Transfer at UCLA who has featured in 57 games across his career at Maryland, Kent State, and UCLA. Three-star S prospect, No.1966 in the nation in 2016 according to 247 Sports. Started his career at Maryland in 2016. However, after a positive start with 27 tackles in 11 games, his usage and production steadily dwindled across 2017 and 2018. Transferred to Kent State for 2019, having a breakout campaign with 41 tackles and 5 PBUs. Enrolled at UCLA in the Summer of 2020 and immediately became the Bruins’ starter at Nickel Back. The highlight of his time in LA was being nominated Second-team All-Pac 12 in 2021. Qwuantrezz Knight is a difficult projection for most NFL defenses due to his limited size, instincts and coverage ability. He's most intriguing as a Slot Corner/ Strong Safety in a nickel package that would heavily use him as a 7th run defender/pass rusher.
