Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Average snap timing and anticipation, isn’t usually first off the ball. Average instincts post-snap, can look lost in space vs. better athletes often anticipates/leans/ pursues one way then is beaten the opposite. Adequate toughness, particularly through the tackle, makes ballcarriers feel the contact all the way to the ground. Adequate motor/effort, can keep going at an adequate level across an entire game and season.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Average overall AA, with average speed, COD, explosiveness and twitch. Lacks the initial high-end burst and natural bend you’d like to see from an Edge defender. Average overall bend and cornering ability, doesn’t have the bend in the ankles to adequately turn back to the QB after getting to the edge of the OT. Adequate play strength, is physical at the POA vs. Run and when attacking as a bull/ long arm rusher.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Average get-off vs. Pass, is more of a progressive power rusher than a quick twitch. Average pass rush moves: adequate long arm is his most effective with average capability to use the dual-hand bull rush and outright edge pursuit. Average UOH in the pass rush, isn’t a guy that likes to play with violent hands, instead prefers to drive his hands into the blocker and win with progressive power. Adequate rush angles and closing speed, once free of blockers can close things down in the pocket. Adequate overall run defender. Adequate at the POA vs. Gap, average vs. Zone, and average vs. DBLs, has adequate heavy hands and anchor to hold his gap and adequate ability to disengage in the run game. Average play temperament, is a touch too hesitant in space and he lacks the high-end AA to make up for it. Will allow plays to slip outside of his edge contain as a result.
