Build

Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Rare height paired with average weight. Long and thin calves with average sized rear end and thighs. Athletic upper body build with long arms. Not physically imposing for 6080 height. Has room to add muscle in his lower body as well as his arm definition.

Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Allen can be found confusing blocking assignments, especially when used as a puller and there are multiple defenders to block. Allen tends to brace for contact rather than run through blocks as a puller in between the tackles. However, he is a willing inline blocker and excels once engaged with a defender on the second level. Also, in the passing game, Allen has been seen taking big hits in the middle of the field and popping right up on multiple occasions. Seems to process coverages quickly and settles when running routes vs. zone.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Allen has show poor athleticism with the ball in his hands, unable to create YAC due to his lack of stop and start ability. He also has issues adjusting to poorly thrown and low passes. Due to his height, most defensive linemen and linebackers are able to get underneath of Allen fairly easily, causing him to lose power from his lower body and either lean on defenders or narrow his base when inline blocking. Allen lacks the flexibility and bend at the hips required of a 6080 tight end to stay low. Allen has shown straight away speed when there is no need to change direction.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Allen's size and lack of athleticism make him a poor route runner on intermediate and short routes that require change of direction. He has trouble exploding out of a two point stance and often raises his upper body to slow himself up before making a break.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Allen was used primarily as an H-Back/off-ball TE. His height makes it difficult to get underneath defensive linemen and he is much better blocking against LBs and Safeties rotating down into the box. Allen's speed and mental processing when pulling across the formation are both questionable. His lack of speed could get him beat to the sideline by most NFL LBs very easily.
