The Tennessee Titans reportedly are close to hiring Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan to be their next coach, ESPN first reported on Monday.

The Titans fired coach Mike Vrabel after six seasons on Jan. 9 after a 6-11 campaign.

The Bengals finished 22nd in yards per game in 2023 (318.9). Cincinnati lost QB Joe Burrow to a season-ending injury in Week 11, leading Backup Jake Browning to take over. Browning kept the Bengals in the playoff hunt until Week 17. Callahan has been Cincinnati's offensive coordinator since 2019. The team reached the Super Bowl two seasons ago and the AFC Championship Game last season.

Callahan's offense had the benefit of Burrow in Cincinnati, but things with the Titans will be different.

Tennessee drafted QB Will Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but it's unclear how committed the Titans are to him long-term. Levis appeared in nine games last season, throwing for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 58.4 percent of his passes.

Tennessee has cast a wide net before landing on Callahan.

The Titans, per the team's official website, also interviewed former Stanford coach David Shaw, Lions DC Aaron Glenn, Eagles OC Brian Johnson, Texans OC Bobby Slowik, Panthers OC Thomas Brown and Cowboys DC Dan Quinn.

Callahan had interviews scheduled with the Falcons and Panthers for later this week. The Titans' new coach will work with general manager Ran Carthon to get Tennessee back on top in the AFC South.
