The New York Jets waived RB Dalvin Cook, allowing him a chance to sign with a playoff contender. Cook will forfeit his remaining guaranteed money to facilitate the move.

Cook, who the Minnesota Vikings released in the offseason, signed a one-year deal with $5.8 million guaranteed with the Jets in August.

The Jets have not had the year they anticipated after Aaron Rodgers ruptured his Achilles four plays into the season. Also, Cook has not been the same player he was in Minnesota, where he had four consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

The four-time Pro Bowler has just 67 carries for 214 yards and 15 catches for 78 yards. He has not scored a touchdown all season. His role has decreased to the point where the Jets were only using Breece Hall and fifth-round rookie Israel Abanikanda.

Cook will be subject to waivers, but he is more than likely going to clear. Baltimore and Cleveland are among the teams that could make sense for him.
