Atlanta Falcons NFL Draft Grades 2023: Bijan Robinson Is One of a Kind
The Atlanta Falcons went against convention in the first round by selecting running back Bijan Robinson in the top 10, the earliest a running back has been drafted since Saquon Barkley went No. 2 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. Atlanta will be hoping they have a future star on their hands, and our scouts like their chances.
The 33rd Team Scouting Dept. graded every pick in this year’s draft, here’s how the Ravens fared:

8. Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas
The Atlanta Falcons may get criticized for taking a running back this early, but Bijan Robinson (scouting report) may have been the only true clean blue-chip prospect in this draft. He was the No. 1 player on our big board and is one of the best running back prospects of this generation. He is a blend of smooth elusiveness and power. He is capable of being a difference-maker in the passing game, and he is already functional as a pass protector, which is usually one of the biggest impediments to running backs getting on the field early. On top of that, he has a clean injury history and top-notch personal and football character.

Matthew Bergeron, OT, Syracuse
With their first pick, the Atlanta Falcons picked perhaps the most talented player in the draft in Bijan Robinson (scouting report), and with this pick, they select an offensive tackle who may be best suited as an offensive guard. Matthew Bergeron (scouting report) is big, strong, smart and tough but comes with athletic limitations and will struggle in space against athletic defenders.

75. Zach Harrison, Edge, Ohio State
The Falcons selected an athletic edge rusher who has a bit of tightness in his ankles but has good bend for his size. Zach Harrison (scouting report) needs to improve his pad level and overall technique, but he has natural strength and power to toss offensive linemen around.

113. Clark Phillips III, CB, Utah
This is an excellent value pick for Atlanta. Clark Phillips III (scouting report) is not the biggest corner, and he is a little tightly wound, but he is extremely productive and competitive. He has a chance to compete for a nickel role.

224. DeMarcco Hellams, Safety, Alabama
DeMarcco Hellams (scouting report) is an average sized safety prospect who displays very good feet and short area quickness. He is slow to read and react and lacks play strength in certain facets of his game.

225. Jovaughn Gwyn, OG, South Carolina
Jovaughn Gwyn (scouting report) is an ordinary athlete with short arms. He is a guard only. He will be a bottom of the roster player who is more likely to be on Atlanta's practice squad.
Grade: C-
