Bryce Young Receives Highest Mark on S2 Test Among 2023 Draft QBs
Expert Analysis 4/5/23
Bryce Young (scouting report) might not check the box for height and weight, but he certainly checks the box for mental processing. During an appearance on the Around the NFL podcast on Tuesday, NFL Media Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said Young received the highest score among quarterbacks in the 2023 draft on the S2 test — an exam that gauges a prospect's processing speed and ability.

Young's mark, according to Jeremiah, is in the vicinity of quarterbacks like Justin Fields, Josh Allen and Drew Brees. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy received the highest score in the 2022 NFL Draft, Jeremiah said.
"[The test] is big, and I think it correlates to the evaluation process for teams because, particularly for quarterbacks, you have to be able to process," said Matt Cassel, an analyst for The 33rd Team. "You have to be able to process. It's not just about your ability to throw the ball through a wall. You have to see defenses, recognize fronts, see the blitz coming and anticipate."
The exam lasts roughly 40 minutes, and a special gaming laptop is used to record reactions in milliseconds. This differs from the Wonderlic Test, which is just a series of 50 questions.
"This test really correlates with processing, and every position has to process," said Marty Mornhinweg, an analyst for The 33rd Team. "This test is so much better than some of these other tests like the Wonderlic. It does not surprise me Bryce Young scored the highest on this test."
Young is still in contention to be selected No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers, although Ohio State's C.J. Stroud (scouting report) is the betting favorite.
