Dirk Koetter is currently an offensive analyst at Boise State University, and is a former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-2018). Koetter also had two stints with the Atlanta Falcons as their offensive coordinator.
Koetter began his coaching career in 1983 at Highland High School. From 1985-1997, Koetter was the offensive coordinator for several colleges and universities: San Francisco State, UTEP, Missouri, Boston College, and Oregon. In 1998, Koetter was hired as head coach of Boise State and was a major player in the Broncos’ rise to national prominence. From 2001-2006, he was the head coach at Arizona State, and under his influence, the Sun Devils became known for their vertical passing attack.
Koetter got his first NFL job in 2007 as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also had two stints as OC of the Atlanta Falcons, and in between he was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Koetter’s best season with the Bucs was in 2016, going 9-7, finishing second in the NFC South and barely missing the playoffs.
Koetter grew up in Pocatello, Idaho and attended Idaho State to play football. He was a teammate with another future NFL Head Coach, Marvin Lewis.
Koetter recently rejoined the Boise State Broncos as an offensive analyst.
