Panthers Hire Dan Morgan As New General Manager

The Carolina Panthers have hired assistant general manager Dan Morgan as their new general manager, replacing Scott Fitterer.

"Dan has a thorough knowledge of our football personnel and a clear vision to take us where we all want to go," Panthers owner David Tepper said in a statement. "We know he will attack this opportunity with the same intensity he did as a Panthers player."

New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown and Philadelphia Eagles assistant GM Alex Halaby were the other finalists for the job.

Morgan, 45, was drafted in the first round by the Panthers in 2001 and played seven seasons, being selected to the Pro Bowl in 2004. He has the 10th-most tackles in franchise history.

Morgan worked in Seattle's front office from 2010-17, winning a Super Bowl before leaving for Buffalo, where he spent three years under Brandon Beane and was part of the group that drafted Josh Allen. He joined Carolina in 2021, working under Fitterer.

Morgan will take over a franchise coming off a 2-15 season and without a first-round pick due to last year's trade-up to draft Bryce Young.

The Panthers still need to hire a coach, and that process is ongoing. There has also been buzz that Carolina could hire someone above Morgan, though that remains unclear.
