Hurts' Status in Doubt for Cowboys Game; Jets' Wilson Likely to Start TNF

Thursday, Dec. 15

Huntley Clears Protocol

Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley cleared concussion protocol on Thursday, but coach John Harbaugh did not name Huntley the team's official starter for Week 15, NFL Media reported.

Huntley has been starting in place of the injured QB Lamar Jackson (PCL sprain), who was officially ruled out for this week's game. The Ravens play the Browns on Saturday in a contest between divisional rivals on opposite ends of the standings.

The 9-4 Ravens are currently tied for first place in the AFC North.

Purdy to Start Week 15

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is expected to start San Francisco's Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks despite oblique and rib injuries, ESPN reported. Purdy had been questionable heading into Thursday, but it appears he will be cleared to start.

Purdy is the 49ers' third-string QB, taking over for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo after Garoppolo himself replaced 2021 first-round pick, Trey Lance.

Smith Could Make Season Debut

Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith could make his season debut this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, coach Mike McCarthy told reporters. Smith suffered a torn hamstring during the preseason and hasn't played since.

The eight-time Pro Bowler's return would come at a crucial time. The Cowboys lost right tackle Terrance Steele for the season (torn ACL) earlier this week.

Milano to Play Week 15

Bills linebacker Matt Milano will play in Week 15 after spending part of the week on the injury report, ESPN reported. Milano was dealing with a knee injury.

The Bills will take on the division rival Miami Dolphins on Saturday with a chance to extend their AFC East division lead further.

Lawrence Limited at Practice

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was limited at practice on Thursday due to a toe injury. Lawrence suffered the injury in Week 13, but he played arguably his best game of the season last week against the Titans. Lawrence was a limited participant in practice leading up to that game as well.

Fields Returns to Practice

Bears quarterback Justin Fields was a full participant in practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice with an illness. Fields and the Bears play the NFC-leading Eagles this weekend after spending Week 14 on the bye.

Brees Takes Interim Coaching Role

Former Chargers and Saints quarterback Drew Brees is taking an interim assistant coach role at Purdue, the school announced. Brees played at Purdue from 1997-2000 before he was selected in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Chargers.

Brees will help the team by coaching in the upcoming Citrus Bowl, and he can recruit via a waiver from the NCAA.

"I see it not only as an opportunity to coach and mentor this group of young men but represent all the former Purdue players that care so much about our program," Brees said in a statement about the job.

Purdue hired former Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters after Jeff Brohm left the Boilermakers to become Louisville's head coach following the team's loss in the Big-10 Championship game to Ohio State.
