Report: Packers 'Disgusted' and 'Done' with Aaron Rodgers, Excited About Jordan Love
The Green Bay Packers are "disgusted" and "done" with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and the team is excited about the potential of Jordan Love taking over, according to longtime Packers beat reporter Bob McGinn.
"They are done with Rodgers," McGinn said on the Go Long podcast (subscription) with Tyler Dunne. "He's not coming back. I mean, they're disgusted with him, and they're done with him. And they're moving on.
"They love Jordan Love," continued McGinn. "They think he's the second coming now. They've seen enough in practice for three years that they believe he is like Rodgers 2.0."
McGinn said his reporting was derived from "discussions with someone who [has] first-hand knowledge" of the Packers. He added that there's a belief across the team's entire power structure that the quarterback is not longer fully committed to the hard work it takes to compete at the highest level, and CEO Mark Murphy, GM Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur all appear ready to move on from the four-time league MVP.
Rodgers, 39, has been contemplating his future since the Packers' season ended short of the playoffs. He's been mulling retirement, although that scenario seems unlikely considering the amount of money he has remaining on his contract; he's guaranteed nearly $60 million next season as long as he doesn’t retire.
The Packers, meanwhile, are confident their team is prepared to handle the post-Rodgers era.
"Jordan Love is ready. Jordan Love will be that guy,” Packers running back Aaron Jones told Fox Sports’ Undisputed while making rounds with media at the Super Bowl in Phoenix. “He made a huge jump this year.”
Jones is also poised to help supplement an offense that could lose Rodgers. Earlier on Friday, he agreed to a contract restructure that will keep him in Green Bay for at least one more season.
