Monday, Feb. 20

Colts Hire New OC

The Indianapolis Colts are hiring Jim Bob Cooter as their new offensive coordinator under coach Shane Steichen, ESPN reported.

Cooter served as the Jacksonville Jaguars passing game coordinator last season and was the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator from 2016-18, giving him prior experience in the role. Despite that, Cooter won't call plays as Steichen revealed he would be the team's play caller during his introductory press conference last week.

Eagles Interview Jim Leonhard

The Philadelphia Eagles interviewed former NFL safety Jim Leonhard for their vacant defensive coordinator position, ESPN reported. Leonhard had been the defensive coordinator for Wisconsin since 2017, before taking over as their interim head coach in 2022.

The Eagles lost defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon just days after their defeat in Super Bowl LVII, as he left to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Gannon's replacement will take over one of the most talented defenses in the league, a unit that recorded a league-leading 70 sacks in 2022.

Leonhard has experience with the pro game, having spent 10 seasons as an NFL safety for six different teams after a standout career at Wisconsin, where he was a three-time All-American.

Dolphins, Chargers Make Defensive Staff Changes

The Miami Dolphins are hiring former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill as their defensive pass-game coordinator under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, ESPN reported.

In a corresponding move, the Chargers are promoting Derrick Ansley to defensive coordinator and Tommy Donatell to secondary coach/pass game coordinator, NFL Media reported.
