Adisa Isaac 2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Strengths

  • Excellent size for edge pass rusher with tapered body and long arms; plus athlete with desired lateral quickness
  • Showed an understanding of how to use his hands as a pass rusher; displayed a swipe-rip move vs. Ohio State
  • Used arm length effectively as an edge rusher to create separation from offensive tackles, allowing him to use his athleticism
  • On pass-rush snaps, he showed explosiveness off the ball into contact with tackle, played off contact with hand usage
  • Flashed speed-to-power as a pass rusher with the initial strength and accelerating power to drive back tackles
  • Showed quickness off the ball to challenge the edge then used a rip move to clear the arc and close on the quarterback
  • On run-game snaps, he beat the tight end coming off the ball low with leverage, getting inside of them and winning physically
  • Played off and through contact effectively, showed excellent balance and body control to work through traffic
  • Outstanding playing personality: active with constantly moving feet and hands and played with competitive energy

Weaknesses

  • Not twitchy and sudden in movement; plus athlete but not purely explosive working the edge as a pass rusher
  • Does not possess the kind of motorcycle lean you’d like to see; doesn't flatten his rush path
  • Did not see his plus athletic traits consistently through full games, an issue that must be addressed

NFL Transition

Isaac is an ascending player as you project him to the next level. The first thing you see on tape is that Isaac has a great frame with a tapered body, excellent length throughout and a foundational baseline athleticism that showed up as a run defender and pass rusher. What also stands out immediately is that Isaac has an outstanding playing personality with a high motor and competitive energy that showed up in his constant hand and feet activity.

Isaac showed the kind of pass-rush traits that translate effectively to the NFL with a desirable combination of speed-to-power and concurrent hand usage to play off initial contact. That was part of an understanding of how to use his hands as part of his pass-rush arsenal, including a very effective rip move that followed both a swipe and club set up.

Isaac is a developing player with the physical traits and competitive toughness to become a solid three-down player with coaching and experience. In some ways, Isaac reminded me of D.J. Wonnum when he came out of South Carolina as the Vikings' fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Isaac and Wonnum have similar measurables, and Wonnum became a starter in his second season.

Other Notes

Isaac came out of Canarsie High School in Brooklyn as a 4-star recruit and started his final two seasons at Penn State. Isaac at times dropped into underneath zone coverage in Penn State’s defense and did not look uncomfortable playing in space
