Sunday, Oct. 16

Eagles OT Lane Johnson Suffers Concussion

Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson left Sunday night's game against the Cowboys with a concussion. Johnson left for the locker room prior to halftime and did not return to the game in the second half of the Eagles' 26-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Johnson, a 2017 First-team All-Pro, will now enter the concussion protocol as the team heads into its Week 7 bye.

Allen Doesn't Commit to Saints' Starting QB

New Orleans Saints coach Dennis Allen spoke to reporters following the team's 30-26 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and chose not to commit to a starter for the team's upcoming game.

The Saints have a quick turnaround with a trip to Arizona to take on the Cardinals Thursday night and, while Andy Dalton has filled in for injured Jameis Winston of late, it appears neither quarterback has taken control of the offense in a convincing enough matter to sway Allen.

Dalton made his third consecutive start for the team in their Week 6 loss at the hands of Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase. The inter-conference loss dropped them to 2-4 for the young season, looking for answers.

The wildcard, of course, is veteran Taysom Hill who has contributed productively in each of the Saints' last two games. It's highly unlikely, but nonetheless possible, Hill gets another chance to prove he's more than just a gadget player.

Marquise Brown in Walking Boot, X-Rays Negative

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown was spotted wearing a walking boot following the team's 19-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN. Brown told reporters that he underwent X-rays and that the initial tests were negative, but that he will undergo further evaluation beginning Monday. Brown had five catches for 68 yards receiving before leaving the game with a foot injury.

Pickett Out, Trubisky In

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett was ruled out with a concussion after taking a big hit in Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mitch Trubisky is in the game. Trubisky started the Steelers' first four games before being replaced by Pickett in the second half of the team's game against the Jets in Week 4.

Pickett made his first career start last week against the Buffalo Bills and threw his first career touchdown to Najee Harris against the Buccaneers.

Noteboom Carted Off Against Panthers

Los Angeles Rams left tackle Joseph Noteboom was carted off against the Panthers this week. After the game, Sean McVay said that Noteboom's injury might be an Achilles injury and could be out for the season. More tests will be coming soon.

Anderson Kicked Out vs Rams

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robbie Anderson was kicked out of the game by head coach Steve Wilks after Anderson was spotted in several heated arguments with the coaching staff. Anderson has been mentioned repeatedly as a trade candidate for the Panthers.

Cobb Suffers High Ankle Sprain

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb suffered a high ankle sprain in the second half of Sunday's game against the Jets, NFL Media reported. There were fears Cobb had broken his ankle when he was seen crying while the cart was driving back to the locker room. Cobb will get an MRI to determine the severity of the sprain.

The Packers have struggled to move the ball in the air at times this year, and Cobb was the team's leading receiver coming into Sunday's game. Green Bay will have to rely on rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs with Cobb likely out.

Bridgewater Replaces Thompson For Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have an in-game injury at quarterback for the third straight week. Skylar Thompson is questionable to return after leaving in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings with a thumb injury. Teddy Bridgewater is in the game in Thompson's place.

Thompson made his first career start on Sunday because Bridgewater, who was removed from last week's game with a potential concussion, didn't clear concussion protocol until Saturday. Miami's usual starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, was also cleared on Saturday after suffering a scary concussion on Sept. 28 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Tagovailoa is expected to return against the Steelers next week.

Barmore Leaves With Knee Injury

New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns with a knee injury. Barmore needed help from the Patriots trainers to get to the sideline, but he walked to the locker room on his own.

The young defensive lineman came into the week questionable with a knee injury, and it looks like he aggravated it further in Sunday's game.

Rams Fielding Trade Calls for Akers

The Los Angeles Rams are listening to trade offers for running back Cam Akers, NFL Media reported on Sunday morning. The Rams are holding Akers out of their Week 6 game against the Panthers for what has been described by coach Sean McVay as "personal reasons."

Akers ran for more than 600 yards as a rookie in 2020, but an Achilles tear forced him to miss the entire 2021 regular season before returning in the Super Bowl. Akers has just 151 yards in five games this season as Los Angeles has mostly phased him out in favor of Darrell Henderson.

The Akers news come less than 24 hours after ESPN reported that the Carolina Panthers are listening to offers for star running back Christian McCaffrey, who is currently seventh in all-purpose yards this season.

Adams to Remain on Field, Not Disciplined for Now

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams won't be disciplined by the NFL for pushing a cameraman down following the team's loss on Monday night against the Chiefs until the legal process ends, NFL Media reported.

The cameraman Adams pushed filed a police report with the Kansas City Police Department charging Adams with misdemeanor assault. Adams' court date is set for Thursday, Nov. 10.

Rams Plan to Submit Rule Change

The Los Angeles Rams plan to submit a potential rule change to the competition committee making all personal foul calls reviewable, ESPN reported. This change would include making roughing the passer reviewable, which has come under fire the past couple of weeks.

The Rams submitted a rule change to the committee last year to make roughing the passer and no other personal foul calls reviewable, but the vote was 9-0 against implementation.

Tagovailoa Clears Concussion Protocol

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has cleared concussion protocol, but will miss Sunday's game with the Minnesota Vikings,  ESPN reported. The Dolphins quarterback suffered a concussion in Miami's Week 4 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Per ESPN, the Dolphins have gone "beyond the requirements" laid out by the NFLPA and NFL by having four outside medical opinions clear Tagovailoa as well as team doctors. The report also cites there is no long-term impact on Tagovailoa's brain after the injury, according to scans that were administered.

The concussion he suffered in Week 4 came just four days after a Week 3 concussion evaluation. The Week 3 incident and the handling of that injury were investigated by the NFLPA. Its findings resulted in the independent neurologist who evaluated Tagovailoa being removed from his position with the league and implementing new concussion protocols centered around players' motor skills.

Tagovailoa is expected to return and start for the team's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 23.

Before his injury, Tagovailoa and the Dolphins had been 3-1 on the year. Tagovailoa has completed 69.6% of his passes on the year while accumulating 1,035 passing yards and eight touchdowns.

Panthers Listening to McCaffrey Offers

The Carolina Panthers are listening to trade offers for star running back Christian McCaffery, according to ESPN. McCaffrey has been playing well this year, and teams know what he can bring to their offense. While no trade has come close to materializing, the NFL trade deadline is set for Nov. 1, two weeks from this coming Tuesday.

Colts' Taylor, Hines Ruled Out

Indianapolis Colts running backs Jonathan Taylor (ankle) and Nyheim Hines (concussion) have both been downgraded to out, according to the team's medical report. Taylor and Hines both missed practice all week but had not yet been officially ruled out until Saturday. Running backs Deon Jackson and Phillip Lindsay are expected to split carries against the Jaguars in week 6.

Commanders' Wentz Suffers Fractured Finger

Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz suffered a fractured finger on his throwing hand during the team's Thursday night win over the Chicago Bears, officially casting doubt over his availability in the coming weeks, according to NFL Media. Wentz is heading to Los Angeles to have a specialist help in deciding the next course of action while his future remains up in the air. If Wentz would need to miss time, the team has quarterbacks Tyler Heinicke and Sam Howell on the roster at this time.

Eagles' Dillard Activated From IR

Philadelphia Eagles tackle Andre Dillard has been activated from the injured reserve, according to ESPN. The former first-round pick suffered a non-displaced fracture in his arm during training camp which required surgery. Dillard has started nine games over the last two seasons for the Eagles at left tackle.
