Titans GM Carthon: Team Hasn't Received Trade Calls for Derrick Henry
News 4/24/23
Trade winds seemed to be directing 2020 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Derrick Henry away from the only home he's ever known in Tennessee. However, the Tennessee Titans haven't received any trade calls for Henry, general manager Ran Carthon told reporters on Monday.
Despite the NFL draft approaching, teams have yet to express interest in the star runner. Nonetheless, some experts feel the Titans should use a Henry trade to jumpstart their rebuild.
"I would imagine that Tennessee is going to work as hard as possible to get something for [Henry]," said Eric Mangini, an analyst for The 33rd team. "Even if it's not what they wanted. You get a sense that Tennessee, under Mike Vrabel and the new administration, might be going through a bit of a reboot here. And struggling the way they did at the end of last season, it looks like it might be time for a reboot."
The Titans lost their final seven games last season, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
"If you can go get some younger players, or if it's one pick, or if it's a couple of picks if it's a future pick — something that will help with this little bit of a rebuild... I think Tennessee would be comfortable with that," Mangini said.
Henry was extremely productive in 2022, carrying the ball a league-high 349 times, compiling 1,538 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. His heavy workload — at least 300 carries in three of the last four seasons — could be a reason teams are, thus far, staying silent.
Another likely reason for the lack of calls could be the 29-year-old's contract. He is due to count for more than $16 million against the cap in 2023.
The Titans have already moved on from veterans like Taylor Lewan, Ben Jones, Bud Dupree, Zach Cunningham and Robert Woods this offseason. There also have been reports the team was interested in trading QB Ryan Tannehill.
