Panthers Plan to Hire Rams' Brown

The Carolina Panthers plan to hire Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach and tight ends coach Thomas Brown to be the team's next offensive coordinator, NFL Media reported.

The Rams have become a popular tree to pick from in recent years, with McVay assistants Matt LaFleur, Brandon Staley, Zac Taylor, and Kevin O'Connell already earning head coaching jobs.

Should the deal be finalized as is expected, Panthers new head coach Frank Reich will have lured a highly respected, young offensive mind to Carolina to potentially help him mold a young quarterback.

Cardinals Release Vance Joseph, Who is Candidate Elsewhere

Vance Joseph is out of work, but he may not be for long. The Arizona Cardinals informed Joseph that they would be "releasing" him, per CBS, ending a four-year run as the team's defensive coordinator. The move comes a day after the team hired former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon as its next head coach.

In Joseph's tenure as coordinator, the team has been just outside the top 10 twice in both yards and points allowed. However it finished next-to-last in points allowed this past season, in part prompting Gannon's hire. A respected coach who spent two years as head coach of the Denver Broncos and year before that as defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, Joseph may not be unemployed for long. Per Denver's NBC affiliate 9NEWS, Joseph is interviewing with the Broncos about their open defensive coordinator position tomorrow, potentially making a return to the sideline he used to coach on. The report also states that Joseph is a candidate to take Gannon's old coordinator position with the Eagles.

Joseph may not be the only name let go from the Cardinals' staff in the wake of Gannon's hire. Further reporting by CBS said that Gannon will inform the team's other current coaches within the next day whether they will be retained or released.

Kubiak Scores Prime Spot on 49ers' Staff

Klint Kubiak has landed one of the best assistant coaching positions remaining, joining Kyle Shanahan's staff on the San Francisco 49ers in an undisclosed top role, NFL Media reported. Kubiak spent last season as the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos, and has previously been the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings.

Kubiak will help Shanahan one of the league's most exciting offenses, loaded with skill players like Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and trade acquisition Christian McCaffrey. He will also work with whomever the team chooses as the starter, 2021 first-rounder Trey Lance or last year's Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy.

Kubiak fills the role formerly held by Bobby Slowik, who joined the Houston Texans as their new offensive coordinator this offseason.

Cardinals Looking at Pair for OC

The Arizona Cardinals have requested to interview Cleveland Browns quarterback coach Drew Petzing for their offensive coordinator job under new coach Jonathan Gannon, NFL Media reported.

The Cardinals also want permission to speak to Commanders wide receivers coach Drew Terrell.

Another Broncos DC Candidate

Add another name to the Denver Broncos defensive list: Former New Orleans Saints co-defensive coordinator Kris Richard interviewed for the Denver job, NFL Media reported. Rex Ryan is considered the favorite to join Sean Payton's staff.

Jaguars Add Two Coaches

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced they have hired wide receivers coach Chad Hall and offensive quality control coach Greg Austin.

Hall arrives in Jacksonville after spending the previous six seasons (2017-22) working with the Buffalo Bills. Austin has spent the past seven seasons coaching in college (Florida International, 2022; Nebraska, 2018-21; Central Florida, 2016-17).

Raiders will hire Matt Lombardi

The Las Vegas Raiders will hire Matt Lombardi as an offensive assistant/assistant wide receivers coach, NFL Media reported.

Lombardi - the younger brother of offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi - spent the past three seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

Panthers add Safeties Coach

The Carolina Panthers will hire Bert Watts as their safeties coach, ESPN reported.

Watts was on the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff this past year as outside linebackers coach and moves to Carolina with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.

Rams Add Lake as Assistant

The Los Angeles Rams have hired former University of Washington head coach Jimmy Lake to a spot on Sean McVay's staff, NFL Media reported.

Lake's title has not been announced. He has mostly coached defensive backs, including with the Buccaneers and Lions from 2006-11 before returning to college.
