Week 6 First-and-10: What You Missed Over a Wild Weekend of Football

first and 10 graphic

Ten wonderful, weird and wacky items from a wild weekend of football:

1st Down

Josh Allen Leaps to Victory vs. Chiefs

It was the game that all football fans had circled on their calendars. Even the players knew the importance of this game, including Jordan Poyer.

Ultimately this AFC showdown did not disappoint. Josh Allen vs. Patrick Mahomes was the headliner, but Diggs, Kelce, Davis, and Smith-Schuster showed up, too.

In the game's final minutes, trailing 20-17, Josh Allen was set up with a designed run, and boy did he hold up his end of the bargain.

Two plays later, Allen went for the lead.

All we heard last year was "whoever has the ball last, wins." Well, the Chiefs agreed with that logic, but not in the correct fashion.

Taron Johnson's interception would seal the game for the Bills. See you guys again in, I don't know, the AFC Championship?

2nd Down

Down Goes Bama (And The Uprights)

There isn’t quite another team that has dominated the men’s college sporting world like Alabama football over the last decade or so. So when rabid fan bases bring out the "We want Bama" signs, it is more in sarcasm than reality. The Tennessee Volunteers' get Bama every year whether they like it or not, and by looking at the record books, it is probably the latter. The Volunteers had not defeated the Crimson Tide since 2006. This year, though, the Volunteers flipped the script.

Tennessee got out to a stout 21-7 lead after the first quarter.

Alabama would come back in the second half and eventually take a 35-34 lead. Despite trailing, the Volunteers did not give up. The game was dominated by one player on the Volunteers' side, which despite the hotel name, kept taking it to the house.

The Tide kept on rolling for Bama, as it would take another lead in the fourth quarter and the … fluids kept on rolling for the Volunteers.

When it came down to the final minutes, the two teams were tied at 49. Alabama would have a chance to take the lead with a 50-yard field goal, but the kick would miss. This led to two completions for the Volunteers and one last chance to score in regulation.

While Tennessee left it all on the field, the fans did not.

3rd Down

49ers 'Walk' Out With a Boom Box

According to a quick Google search, the boom box was released to the masses in the late 1970s. According to another Google search, not one of the 49ers players were born in the 1970s. This did not stop them from walking out to "Walk" by Kodak Black (also not born in the 1970s) on a massive red boom box.

4th Down

Going for 2 — USC-You Later

While the NFL has seen their share of two-point fails this season, that theme hasn’t quite found its way to head coach Kyle Wittingham and the Utah football team. With a chance to tie the game at 42 with an extra point attempt, the Utes said, "We want game."

Utah handed USC its first loss of the season.

5th Down

Brady Not Happy

The GOAT showed his horns to his offensive line in the first half vs. the Steelers on Sunday, when the Buccaneers trailed, 10-6, before halftime.

The frustration did not lead to much on the offensive end. The Buccaneers were eventually defeated, 20-18.

6th Down

Better, But Still Bad

Mike Gesicki tried to join the "Griddy" touchdown celebration earlier in the season, which led to his roasting on the interwebs.

He had a chance to redeem himself against the Vikings on Sunday.

At least it is trending in the right direction?

7th Down

'Queso' Gardner Gets the W in Green Bay

The Jets have been given a lot of reasons to smile this season. So after defeating the Green Bay Packers, 27-10, Sauce Gardner was "cheesing".

8th Down

Belichick Has No Use for Trophy Ball

Unless it is a Super Bowl trophy, Bill Belichick doesn’t want it. Belichick picked up his 324th career win (including playoffs) on Sunday, pushing him into a tie for second place on the all-time wins list with George Halas. So with all that history in mind, when rookie Brenden Schooler offered Belichick the football he had recovered in the fourth quarter, Belichick quietly declined.

We can probably assume what was rolling through his head as the football was being offered.

9th Down

Panthers Kick Out Robbie Anderson

Things aren’t looking great for the Carolina Panthers. Already without their first- and second-string quarterbacks, the Panthers turned to P.J. Walker to lead the way on Sunday. He, too, would end up getting hurt (neck) and had to be replaced by Jacob Eason, who was just called up from the practice squad. And, by the way, the Panthers fired Matt Rhule this past week, too.

So with all of this going on, Robbie Anderson, who is in the middle of a subpar season with only 13 catches, showed his displeasure on the sideline.

Anderson was ultimately sent to the locker room by his interim head coach Steve Wilks, ending his day.

Woof.

10th Down

New York Football is Back, Baby!

Sure, there probably was some guy screaming in his basement this offseason that this would be the Giants' and Jets' year, but none of us really believed it, right? Well the Giants and the Jets are looking at their receipts and showing the football world they mean business.

The Giants are 5-1 and the Jets are 4-2. Both sit near the top of their divisions and have a real chance at the playoffs this season. What is the common theme between these two teams? Young, inspiring head coaches. Brian Daboll of the Giants and Robert Saleh of the Jets have their teams firing on all cylinders, and both teams are showing no signs of slowing down.

Start spreading the news, they’re (nearly) leading today!
