New England Patriots Climb to No. 3 in the Discipline Index
While the New England Patriots are still in danger of suffering their first losing season in the NFL in two decades, last week’s win over the Baltimore Ravens served as a reminder that you can never write off a Bill Belichick-coached team. There might be several reasons why the Patriots have struggled in 2020, but discipline is not one of them. The Patriots commit an average of 3.2 penalties per game, for an average of just 33.7 yards. Both of those numbers are the best in the league this season.
For that reason, the Patriots have climbed to No. 1 on The 33rd Team’s Discipline Index, which combines penalties, penalty yards and turnovers to show which teams are making the fewest mistakes.
New England is one of just three teams in the updated Discipline Index with a losing record. Interestingly enough, the No. 1 team remains the Houston Texans – the Patriots’ opponent this week. It’s safe to say that whichever team makes the fewest mistakes will win this game.
