Eagles, Hurts Obliterate Vikings 24-7 on Monday Night Football

In the second leg of the Monday Night Football doubleheader, the Philadelphia Eagles outlasted the Minnesota Vikings 24-7. Jalen Hurts looked like a man possessed for Philadelphia, throwing beautiful deep balls and embarrassing the Vikings’ defense. Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson came crashing back to Earth after an explosive Week 1. Even though the Eagles did not score in the second half, Cousins ultimately kept giving the game away by throwing costly interceptions and making terrible mistakes.

Pride of Philadelphia

The Eagles offense soared for the second straight week. Jalen Hurts channeled Michael Vick at Lincoln Financial Field tonight. He accounted for nearly 400 yards of offense and 3 touchdowns, including the insane touchdown run below.

However, arguably the most impressive performance came from the Eagles’ defense. After letting the Detroit Lions back into the game last week, Jonathan Gannon’s unit reminded everyone that Kevin O’Connell still has a lot to learn about being an NFL head coach. Philadelphia held Dalvin Cook under 20 rushing yards and only allowed 62 total yards on the ground. The Eagles’ vaunted defensive line harassed Kirk Cousins throughout the evening. Even though they only sacked him twice, Cousins was under pressure all night, forcing him to throw costly interceptions.

Misery in Minnesota

It’s the same old story for the Minnesota Vikings. Kirk Cousins came into the game with the highest career passer rating for a visiting quarterback at Lincoln Financial Field, But, in a primetime game, Cousins wilted under the bright lights. He threw three heart-wrenching interceptions, all in the red zone. Darius Slay locked up Justin Jefferson after Jefferson looked like the next Randy Moss in Week 1.

The Vikings defense rebounded a bit in the second half, keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard and blocking a field goal. Unfortunately, it was ultimately not enough, as the Minnesota offense continued to flounder.
