Build

Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Above the line size and length. Body has already filled out. Doesn't need to add on any weight. Frame and durability are outstanding. Only missed two games during his entire collegiate career.

Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Adequate toughness, especially since he is able to play through injuries and still be effective. Could stand to see him play with more physicality considering how big he is for the receivers in this class. Instincts are adequate. He shows a general knowledge of where to sit in zones. Effort and motor are adequate, but could stand to see him play with more urgency, especially since he struggles to get open against some of the better defenses in the SEC. Some plays it seems like he is only running at half speed.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Explosiveness and speed are adequate with flashes of above the line, especially for his size. Has the ability to create something out of nothing (v Auburn/Q3/10:34), which is impressive given his height and weight. Change of direction is overall adequate, and teams can get the ball to him space and let him create. Body control is outstanding with the ability to stay upright through contact and adjust to poorly thrown balls on deep routes (v Auburn/Q3/12:38 & AT Alabama/Q3/6:15). Flexibility and bend are adequate, but he does look stiff on some of his routes. Play strength is adequate, but would like to see him play with more physicality given his size.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Did return kicks his freshman year at Arkansas, but this is not a big part of his game. Perimeter blocking is adequate, but should be better given his size and frame. Off of the LOS, both suddenness and release are average at best. The majority of the time he gets easily jammed off the line and gets too handsy with his opposing defender. His route running is average, and he does not have an array of moves to help him get open. Route running is very choppy and needs to be developed extensively (AT LSU/Q2/14:52). Vertical threat is adequate with his contested catch ability boosting this attribute a lot. Despite not having tremendous speed or explosiveness, he is still an option on go-routes with his contested catch ability. Ball skills are above the line for this reason. Run after the catch ability is adequate, especially for his size. This trait could be very useful at the next level.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Treylon Burks came into Arkansas as a four-star prospect from Warren High School. His freshman year, he started in nine out of 11 games and compiled 29 REC for 475 YDS while also being named to the Second Team All-SEC as a kick return specialist. His sophomore year, Burks took a step up as he was able to record 51 REC for 820 YDS and 7 TDS while also making Second Team All-SEC for the second consecutive year. With a lot of hype heading into his junior year, Burks had a career year as he recorded 66 REC for 1,104 YDS and 11 TDS on top of being named a First Team All-SEC receiver and became only the fourth player in Arkansas program history to have over 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. Burks is a WR3 who wins with his impressive body control, outstanding contested catch ability, and his twitch for his size. He has the chance to elevate himself to a high-level WR2 if he works extensively on his route running and builds on his run after the catch ability.
