Build

Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Roger McCreary is built well but in a smaller frame with a limited ability to add more weight to his body. Despite lack of height, his length is adequate for the position and possesses an ability to use to great than his length entails. Is a 4-year player at the CB position and has faced the best of the SEC WRs in his time at Auburn. Primary starter in 2020 and 2021.

Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Above the line competitive toughness with the will and ability to face larger and skilled WRs. Has been matched up with early first round draft picks in 2019-2021. Despite adequate AA, the competitive play style and intelligence allows him to play outside. Later in games, fatigue does not compromise his technique with consistent flexibility and bend. Immensely patient.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Roger McCreary lacks top tier speed that can limit play down the field but patience, ability to stay in phase and locate/make a play on the ball at the top of the stem and at high point he remains effective. Not an explosive athlete but has sharp tackling angles paired with fluid COD and outstanding foot speed.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Above the line ability in press man coverage with intelligence, and plant/drive to play in a Cover 2 scheme. Limited waisted movement in his plant as well as in the movement of his hips. Can anticipate route breakpoints instincts and make a play on the ball. Above the line in situational football and shows a knack for forcing fumbles. Despite size issues, physicality will not be limited, but can be out jumped due to height advantage. Outstandingly smooth feet in his back pedal. Can be overpowered in run support but will win with consistent fight and placement to force ball carrier towards help.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Despite a lack of size for an outside CB, McCreary has fared outstandingly against high levels of competition due to his instincts, patience and hip fluidity. At catch point, due to intelligence and reactionary athleticism, he is able to use physicality to compete with larger receivers. Would be a disservice to not test him on the outside as he has shown he can win despite size traits. As a 4-year player and 2.5 year starter at Auburn, he has refined his technique and has shown the most consistent flexibility and bend of the Senior Bowl prospects. McCreary is an exceptionally pro-ready prospect that will use his instincts, proper technique and outstanding foot speed to compete with the very best.
