4 Trade Landing Spots for Seattle Seahawks Wide Receiver DK Metcalf
The DK Metcalf sweepstakes is officially underway.
Shortly after the Seattle Seahawks and Tyler Lockett announced that they were parting ways, reports surfaced that Metcalf requested a trade to play for a contender.
It will take a lot for a team to acquire the 27-year-old wideout. The two-time Pro Bowler has already amassed 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns in six seasons, and the Seahawks won't part with that kind of impact weapon without significant compensation.
Let's examine a few teams that could be in the market for Metcalf and potential trade packages to close the deal.
DK Metcalf Trade Packages
Green Bay Packers
Packers receive: WR DK Metcalf, 2025 seventh-round pick
Seahawks receive: WR Romeo Doubs, 2025 third-round pick
There is one team that's close to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender with a clear need for a No. 1 receiver and financial flexibility, and that's the Green Bay Packers.
With Christian Watson expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2025 season with an ACL tear, the Packers seriously need a big-bodied vertical threat to help the passing game as a man-coverage beater.
According to TruMedia, Watson led the Packers with 3.34 yards per route run against man coverage in 2024, with Romeo Doubs a bit farther behind at 1.63, while Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks were below 1.00 YPRR.
Meanwhile, Metcalf has averaged 2.48 YPRR against man coverage in his entire NFL career. A previous report suggested that the Seahawks were asking for one of Doubs or Wicks in a trade with Green Bay, and Brian Gutekunst might be willing to part with a player on an expiring rookie deal in order to acquire one of the best X receivers in the NFL.
New England Patriots
Patriots receive: WR DK Metcalf
Seahawks receive: 2025 second-round pick
During his media availability at the NFL Scouting Combine, New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel mentioned the team's need for a big-bodied contested-catch specialist on the outside of the offense.
There are some options in the draft, like Tetairoa McMillan, for the Patriots. Or they could take the big swing on a proven commodity like Metcalf.
The Patriots severely lack a reliable receiver option for Drake Maye. Demario Douglas is an adequate slot receiver, but the rookie receivers, Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker, didn't have the kind of impact that the team was hoping for.
Metcalf's trade request came with a desire to play for a contender. However, if Metcalf is willing to be patient with a team like New England, the Patriots would likely have no problem throwing top-of-market money at Metcalf with a contract extension, given their massive amount of cap space.
Los Angeles Chargers
Chargers receive: WR DK Metcalf, 2025 fifth-round pick
Seahawks receive: 2025 third-round pick, 2026 conditional third-round pick
One of the biggest needs for the Los Angeles Chargers is another impact receiver, and Metcalf could easily check that box as an ideal outside target for Justin Herbert.
Ladd McConkey emerged as one of the most exciting rookie receivers in a loaded class, catching 82 passes for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns. However, due to his smaller frame, he's primarily a slot receiver, and opponents found ways to shut down LA's passing game by focusing on stopping McConkey to force their struggling outside targets to make plays.
Metcalf would be the perfect pairing to take some of the pressure off of McConkey in the slot. Along with being a legitimate vertical threat, he's a great safety blanket with his body control and ability to box out defenders.
An addition like Metcalf could make the Chargers a dangerous playoff threat, and there have already been previous trade interest from the team to acquire the star receiver. Given their significant cap space, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Chargers try to take a big swing for a top weapon for Herbert.
Las Vegas Raiders
Raiders receive: WR DK Metcalf
Seahawks receive: 2025 second-round pick
Would Metcalf be willing to be traded to a non-contender for a chance to reunite with head coach Pete Carroll?
The Las Vegas Raiders are facing a pivotal offseason for the future of their franchise. With no clear answer yet at quarterback, along with significant cap space and draft capital, the Raiders aren't going to be afraid to take big swings to turn the franchise around.
There's a good chance that the Raiders will go for a rookie quarterback like Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart to run the offense in 2025. Brock Bowers is an awfully nice safety blanket at tight end, but having a deep threat at X that a rookie could throw it up to would make things even easier in a rookie's first NFL season.
Metcalf might not want to be a part of a rebuild, but that could change depending on his relationship with Carroll. Plus, with more than $95 million in cap space this offseason, the Raiders could work on an extension that would make Metcalf one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL for the foreseeable future.
