NFL Offseason Fixer-Uppers: How Jets Can Improve in 2023

In an ongoing offseason series, experts from The 33rd Team offer three things each team can do to improve in 2023.

AFC: BAL | BUF | CIN | CLE | HOU | IND | JAX | KC | LAC | LV | MIA | NE | PIT | TEN
NFC: ATL | CARDAL | DET | GB | LARMIN | NYG | PHI | SEA | SF | TB

Here is my list of three things that would improve the New York Jets.

3 Things to Improve Jets

NFL MVP

1. Find Veteran Starting Quarterback

Of all the things the Jets can do to reach their potential this season, the first has to be replacing Zach Wilson and finding a quarterback who can lead this team going forward. I think signing free-agent Derek Carr or trading for Aaron Rodgers would be good places to start. They don’t need to draft or sign a young quarterback. The Jets are ready to win now.

2. Draft Strong Interior Offensive Line

The Jets have done a great job drafting, but they’ve missed on some picks too, and that has left some holes on their roster. Wilson went second overall in 2021. Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton went 11th overall, but he’s only played 15 games since 2020.

They have to move on from those two guys. However, they also drafted last season’s AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, cornerback Sauce Gardner, and the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, receiver Garrett Wilson. Now, they’ve got to draft some starters for the interior of their offensive line and keep it strong.

3. Figure Out How to Retain Top Players

The Jets will have to find a way to pay all of their top starters, and that’s going to start with a new contract for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. He could become the NFL’s highest-paid defensive lineman. He’s helped the Jets’ defense become one of the league’s best.

If running back Breece Hall gets healthy (torn ACL) and performs how he did before his injury, the Jets will make the playoffs in 2023.

Samari Rolle is a former NFL defensive back who played for the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens. He was a part of the Titans Super Bowl XXXIV team. He was named an All-Pro in 2000 and also was voted to the Pro Bowl that season.

2023 NFL Free Agency: Who’s Next In Line For Big-Money Extensions?
One of the crucial things personnel departments do that fans usually don’t realize is budget for future contracts and strategically work them into what a future salary cap might look like. For example, the Bengals have budgeted responsibly during the past several years, preparing for what a Joe Burrow extension might cost them. Teams know […]

Jets’ Defense Played Like Elite Defenses of Old Against Bills

The New York Jets defense held the Bills to their fewest yards all season on Sunday. They routinely confused Josh Allen and the duo of D.J. Reed and Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner is among the best in the league. But everyone made plays, and nobody made stupid mistakes. Wayne Chrebet is having flashbacks to the ’86 Giants!
