The Seattle Seahawks are signing wide receiver DK Metcalf to a three-year $72 million extension. Metcalf is set to make $58.2 million guaranteed. His $30 million signing bonus will also be the highest ever given to a wide receiver.

The State of the Wide Receiver Market

With the increasing number of high-powered offenses, teams are desperate for top pass catchers. The Seahawks believe that the 6'4", 230 lbs wideout is among the most talented at the position. They're also willing to put their money where their mouth is.

Metcalf becomes the latest wide receiver to take advantage of the booming market. He joins the company of players like Cooper Kupp (Rams) and A.J. Brown (Eagles) as some of the highest-paid wideouts in the league.

Metcalf By The Numbers

The Seahawks drafted Metcalf with the final pick of the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Coming off of running a 4.33 40-yard dash at the Combine, the Seahawks were thrilled to land him at that point in the draft.

In his three years in Seattle, Metcalf racked up over 3,000 yards receiving and caught 29 touchdowns. 12 of those 29 touchdowns came last season alone. The Pro Bowler broke Seattle’s single-season receiving record last season with 1,303 yards.  Metcalf also had a notable defensive highlight to his credit.

New Era in Seattle

For the first time in a long time, the Seahawks will have somebody not named Russell Wilson entering the season under center. All signs point to either Geno Smith or Drew Lock being the starter for the Seahawks this season. Only time will tell how well Metcalf and his new QB connect on and off the field. With that being said, it is worth noting that when Metcalf becomes a free agent, he will only be 27 years old.
