McCarthy Safe in Dallas

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy’s job is safe in Dallas no matter the outcome of Monday’s playoff game against the Buccaneers, NFL Media reported. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones went on a local radio station this week and said McCarthy remained in good standing with the organization.

Dallas has been rumored to be interested in former Saints coach Sean Payton, who is taking head coaching interviews with a number of teams this cycle, for some time. However, Payton doesn’t reportedly think the Cowboys’ job will open this cycle.

Former NFL executive and analyst for The 33rd Team, Joe Banner, wrote about Dallas’ options at head coach for this offseason before the start of the playoffs.

“Granted, the most likely scenario is they do nothing, and considering McCarthy’s success the past two seasons, I get that,” Banner wrote. “But does he give owner Jerry Jones the best chance of winning a Lombardi Trophy? I don’t know. What I do know is I’d consider what’s out there and weigh my options.”
