Scouting Report: Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami

Build - Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Rousseau's size and length are elite (6'7 265 lbs). He has the frame to add more weight and is very strong for his slender frame. He uses his length very well when getting his hands on blockers giving enough separation to avoid most initial punches in pass protection

Mental - Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Toughness/Effort/Motor are all very good. His instincts can be questionable as he often takes extra steps to square himself to the ball carrier instead of closing in and will seemingly get confused on whether the QB/RB has the ball on disguised handoffs/misdirection plays

Athleticism - Does he have the athletic traits you want?

His Explosiveness and Speed are above average. His body control is average as he will lose his feet often when cutting through traffic and lacks initial burst laterally when he diagnosis which direction the play is going. Pad level can be high at times with his height (6'7"). Is very deceptively strong as his initial punch doesn't push back blockers but once his hands are on the blocker has the lower body strength to move blockers in whichever direction he is pushing them

Technical - Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Rousseau gets out of his stance with above average burst and quickly uses his length to get initial separation from blockers. His punch is adequate but his disengage is quite impressive whether he rips the defender or uses his athleticism to completely avoid the blocker as their length separation does not give them an opportunity to land a substantial punch. Once past the blocker Rousseau can struggle at identifying the ball carrier, but once he does have above average speed to close in on them

Summary - What role does he play? What is his initial projection?

Rousseau is an edge player with elite size and length (6'7" 265 lbs). He is an above average athlete with deceptive power who uses his length to separate from blockers and has the speed to quickly close on ball carriers. Played inside the line in school but was often disguising stunts from the initial position. Fits best as a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 OLB who is rarely asked to cover. Similar play style to Chandler Jones
