Week 11 Discipline Index: Tampa Bay's Lack of Discipline Costs Them a Win
After another disciplined performance and a shutout victory against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks, the Green Packers once again sit on top of the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index. The Packers’ defense has come to play the past few games against three of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and they are starting to look more and more like Super Bowl contenders.Â
Here is what the top-10 of the Discipline Index looks like heading into Week 11:
As a reminder, the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index combines the number of penalties, penalty yardage and turnovers on a per-game basis in order to show which teams are able to play the most mistake-free football in any given week.
The trend of upsets continued into Week 10 as the Washington Football Team defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 29-19. Washington forced two first quarter interceptions of Tom Brady, and they did a tremendous job controlling the pace of the game — Washington won the time of possession in this one by almost 19 minutes (39:08 for Washington compared to only 20:52 time of possession for the defending Super Bowl Champions).
While the Football Team’s ability to win the time of possession battle was a big storyline, another one was the discipline of the team as a whole. Washington only committed three penalties for 33 yards and only had one turnover on the game. It may be too early to wonder if the Football Team can make a playoff push, but performances like these, especially in the face of adversity as star defensive end Chase Young went down with a torn ACL in this one, will certainly go a long way in a competitive NFC.
This team truly started to show signs of the team that finished the end of last year so strong, specifically on the defensive side of the ball. They will have a chance to prove themselves against the upstart Carolina Panthers in Week 11.Â
Despite Washington’s strong performance against the Buccaneers in Week 10, what the 49ers were able to do against the Los Angeles Rams cannot go unnoticed. The Niners proved to be the Rams’ kryptonite once again as they cruised to a 31-10 victory.
This win saw the Niners force not one, but two turnovers from Matthew Stafford, while Jimmy Garoppolo and company did not turn the ball over a single time. Moreover, the Niners, who had been playing an undisciplined brand of football as of late, were able to not commit as many penalties as usual with only 53 yards worth in this one.
This performance helped the Niners to rise three spots in the Discipline Index. They will have a chance to start a winning streak against Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11.Â
