Top 5 Standouts from Day 1 of the Senior Bowl
- Dameon Pierce - RB, Florida
One player worth watching is Dameon Pierce. He had a very solid day, which included tons of quality runs in the team period. The run of the day during the team period was his run for about 25 yards, which was encouraging to see. This was a very solid start to the week for him, and he is someone to keep an eye on throughout the week.
- Troy Andersen - LB, Montana
Troy Andersen is an under the radar prospect that is worth monitoring. The Montana product had a strong first day and consistently looked like one of the best players on the field. Andersen’s best attribute is his speed, which particularly stood out today. His speed offers upside in coverage, and he displayed solid coverage ability in today’s practice. His highlight of the day was a very nice pass breakup on a corner route vs Jake Ferguson. Coming from a smaller school, he needs to have a stronger week than other prospects from larger programs, but this was a good start for him.
- Arnold Ebiketie - ED, PSU
Arnold Ebiketie is one of the top prospects taking part in the Senior Bowl. Today was a perfect example shown in today’s opening practice. His explosiveness was evident even in their drills during their defensive indy period. During these drills, there was a notable difference between him and other edge rushers on the National team. Also, he was impressive in 1 on 1’s and during the team period as well. A couple more performances like this, and it would not be surprising to see him get serious round one chatter.
- Travis Jones - DL, UCONN
Travis Jones had a great day for the National Team. He is a massive human being, who was the clear standout amongst the interior defensive lineman on both sides. His size and strength were on full display today, and it proved difficult to stop all day. Travis Jones did his most damage today in the 1 on 1’s period. He was dominant throughout, which was a common theme all day for him.
- Jermaine Johnson II - ED, FSU
The big winner of the day was clearly Jermaine Johnson II. Johnson was nearly unblockable in every period of the day. He consistently flashed all day and made multiple plays. Some of his most notable highlights include a nice TFL on a pursuit in team, a “sack” in 1 on 1’s on a spin move, and a good tackle caused by a good disengage in team. The big highlight of the day was in his 1 on 1 vs Darian Kinnard after practice. The Lions coaching staff chose Johnson and Kinnard to go 1 on 1 after practice. On the first rep, Johnson used a bull rush that knocked Kinnard on his back, which was a very strong start of the week for the Florida State edge rusher.
