Rams Remain No. 1 in the Big Play Index

The 33rd Team introduced the Big Play Index to show how NFL teams stack up in terms of big plays produced and big plays allowed. Through seven weeks of the 2020 season, the Los Angeles Rams continue to have the best Big Play differential at plus-14.

We are defining a Big Play as a run of 15-plus yards and/or a pass of 20-plus yards. Here's a breakdown of this week's data:

Here are three Week 8 matchups that could be impacted by contrasting Big Play differentials:

Rams at Dolphins: While the Rams have the best Big Play differential at plus-14, the Dolphins are tied for 26th at minus-6. Only three teams have fewer than Miami's 22 big plays on offense. Will Tua Tagovailoa make a difference?

Jets at Chiefs: There's a good reason Kansas City is favored by nearly three touchdowns in this game. Only one team has produced more offensive big plays than the Chiefs, while only two teams have allowed more big plays than the Jets, who are dead last in the Big Play Index.

Buccaneers at Giants: While the Giants have allowed as many big plays as they've produced, for a differential of 0, The Bucs are second in the league at plus-13.
