NFL Week 10 Game Notes

Some interesting nuggets from each of Sunday's Week 10 games:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 46, Carolina Panthers 23

  • Tampa Bay was 10-for-16 on third-down conversions, while Carolina was just 1-for-9
  • Tom Brady is 7-1 following a loss of 20-plus points, with 19 TDs and 3 INTs in those games (per Fox)
  • Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater completed his first 13 passes, but then completed just 5 of 11 attempts after that.

Cleveland Browns 10, Houston Texans 7

  • Jarvis Landry has reached 600 career receptions. Landry is the seventh player in NFL history with 600-plus receptions in his first seven seasons, joining: Marvin Harrison, Antonio Brown, DeAndre Hopkins, Torry Holt, Larry Fitzgerald, and Brandon Marshall (NFL Research)
  • The Browns scored their first TD of the day in the fourth quarter on a TD run by Nick Chubb, who missed the last four games with a knee injury. The Browns had zero rush TD in those four games (NFL Research)

Detroit Lions 30, Washington Football Team 27

  • Washington is the only team that has yet to score on its opening drive this season.
  • Alex Smith, in his first start since his devastating leg injury, was 38-for-55 for 390 yards. He brought Washington down from 21 points to tie the game at 27 late in the game.
  • Smith has passed for 300-plus yards in back-to-back games for the first time in his career (per ESPN’s Field Yates).

Green Bay Packers 24, Jacksonville Jaguars 20

  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s 78-yard receiving TD was the longest by a Packers player since Jordy Nelson’s 80-yard TD in Week 2 of 2014 vs. the Jets.
  • Valdes-Scantling has three receiving TDs of 40-plus yards in 2020, currently the most in the NFL (per NFL Research).
  • This was Aaron Rodgers’ 25th career game with at least one passing TD and at least one rushing TD. That is the third-most such games by any player in the Super Bowl era, trailing Cam Newton (40) and Hall of Famer Steve Young (31) (NFL Research).

New York Giants 27, Philadelphia Eagles 17

  • Wayne Gallman has four straight games with a rushing TD, the longest streak by a Giant since Andre Brown (2012-13).
  • On his 34-yard TD run, Giants QB Daniel Jones outran the Eagles defense by reaching a top speed of 19.70 MPH, faster than any other player on the field (Next Gen Stats).
  • Daniel Jones is averaging 8.0 yards per rush. In the last 30 seasons, Michael Vick (2006) is the only QB to average better (min. 40 attempts).

Pittsburgh Steelers 36, Cincinnati Bengals 10

  • Bengals rookie QB Joe Burrow has thrown for 300-plus yards in five games this season. The NFL rookie record is six, by Andrew Luck.
  • The Steelers moved to 9-0, the only undefeated team left this season. The last two times Pittsburgh was last undefeated team, they made it to the Super Bowl both times.
  • Ben Roethlisberger is 21-2 starting against rookie QBs.

Arizona Cardinals 32, Buffalo Bills 30

  • Bills QB Josh Allen caught a TD reception from WR Isaiah McKenzie in the first half. It was Allen’s second career TD reception -- his first came in last season’s Wild Card game vs. Houston.
  • Allen became the third QB in NFL history with 20-plus pass TDs and 5-plus rush TDs in consecutive seasons, joining Dak Prescott (2016-18) and Deshaun Watson (2018-19) (NFL Research).
  • Arizona scored its first TD of the game on a Kyler Murray rushing TD with 5:44 left in the third quarter. Murray is the first QB in the Super Bowl era to have a rushing TD in five straight games (per Scott Hanson).
  • Murray rushed six times for 19 yards in the first half. In the second half, he had five carries for 42 yards and 2 TDs.
  • In just his second season, Murray’s successful Hail Mary to DeAndre Hopkins with 2 seconds left capped his fifth career game-winning drive.

Las Vegas Raiders 37, Denver Broncos 12

  • The Raiders had only five takeaways coming into Week 10 and they had six on Sunday.
  • Raiders WR Nelson Agholor leads the NFL with 20.4 yards per a reception (per CBS)
  • The Raiders are 3-0 in AFC West for the first time since 2010 (per CBS)
  • Raiders RB Devontae Booker scored as many rushing touchdowns (2) as he had in his final three seasons with the Broncos combined (per Denver’s Andrew Mason).
  • Raiders DE Maxx Crosby 6 sacks on the season, half of the total for th Raiders’ defense.

Los Angeles Rams 23, Seattle Seahawks 16

  • Against Seattle’s shaky defense, the Rams have had three scoring drives of 70-plus yards in the first half
  • Jalen Ramsey was the definition of a shutdown CB. Covering DK Metcalf all day, Metcalf didn’t have his first target and catch until there were 30 seconds left in the third quarter. Metcalf finished with just 2 receptions for 28 yards.
  • The Rams have won four of their last five vs. Seattle.
  • Seattle QB Russell Wilson has 8 turnovers over the last four games.

New Orleans Saints 27, San Francisco 49ers 13

  • The Saints had just 8 yards of offense in the first quarter, their lowest total in a quarter in the last 15 years.
  • Drew Brees suffered a rib injury on a first-half sack. Despite Sean Payton’s penchant to play backup QB Taysom Hill in various situations, it was Jameis Winston who started the third quarter for New Orleans. In an important one-score game, it perhaps showed what Payton thinks of Hill as a full-time QB.
  • The Saints run defense held the 49ers to 49 yards rushing on 25 attempts.

Miami Dolphins 29, Los Angeles Chargers 21

  • The Chargers special teams continues to be an issue -- they had a punt blocked on their first drive.
  • The Dolphins have forced at least one turnover in 15 straight games.
  • Rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa is 3-0 after he took over during the bye week; he has 5 TDs and 0 INTs in three games.

New England Patriots 23, Baltimore Ravens 17

  • The Patriots improved to 4-0 when they win the turnover battle. That stat defines their season more than any other, as they are 0-5 when they lose the turnover battle.
  • The Patriots' first TD was set up by a 20-yard reception by TE Ryan Izzo. The Patriots entered this game with 16 targets to TEs this season, nine fewer than any other team. Patriots TEs didn't get targeted on a single pass attempt last week against the Jets (per ESPN’s Mike Reiss).
  • Cam Newton’s TD pass to Rex Burkhead was his first passing TD since Week 3. Per NFL.com, this was the longest such drought by a New England QB who has started at least four consecutive games since Jim Plunkett in 1975.
  • Patriots CB J.C. Jackson is the first NFL player with an interception in five straight games since 2014. He leads the NFL with 6 picks.
  • Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is 1-6 (including playoffs) when trailing at halftime.
  • Damien Harris finished 123 rush yards -- most by any player against the Ravens this season.
  • Per NFL Next Gen Stats: When facing a 8-plus defenders in the box, Harris had 9 carries for 60 yards (6.7 avg.).
