Tape Talk: Michigan EDGE Aidan Hutchinson

2022 NFL Mock Draft ... Aidan Hutchinson

Aidan Hutchinson is a defensive end from Michigan and is universally regarded as one of the top players in the 2022 NFL Draft. The EDGE player was a Heisman Award Finalist. Hutchinson set the Michigan single-season sack record at 14 and helped lead the team to the College Football playoff.

John Pagano broke down Hutchinson's tape for The 33rd Team. Pagano has been coaching since 1989, with stops at six different NFL teams and numerous colleges. Most recently, Pagano was the outside linebackers coach for the Denver Broncos. He has worked with numerous talented edge players, including: Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack, Shawne Merriman, Shaun Phillips and Melvin Ingram.

The Breakdown on Aidan Hutchinson

"When you watch Aidan," Pagano said, "The instincts really show out on tape."

Pagano also loved Hutchinson's use of hands at the point of attack and his overall motor and effort. He felt he could improve his false steps when in a 2-point stance and that he often plays too tall when rushing the passer. One other big concern many have with Hutchinson is his short arm length. Hutchinson's arms measured 32 1/8" inches at the NFL Combine. Pagano pointed to his time with Melvin Ingram as someone who succeeded despite less-than-ideal arm length.

The 33rd Team has Hutchinson ranked as the fourth overall prospect and as the second overall EDGE player.
