Ryan Jensen Goes Down at Practice

Ryan Jensen

The Buccaneers' roller coaster offseason started when they lost and regained Tom Brady. Then,  All-Pro guard Ali Marpet retired. Now, they are hoping Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen is not out for the long haul after being injured at training camp today.

The 31-year-old center went down today at camp after suffering what was reported to be a lower left leg injury. Todd Bowles spoke to the media and stated he didn’t see the play and won’t have an update on Jensen until he gets to the training room.

Jensen is never one to let the pain get to him, according to Jenna Laine, who covers the team for ESPN, but he couldn’t put weight on it and had to be carted off. After the injury all his teammates huddled around him until the cart could come out, afterwards media noticed a significant change in the ton of practice.

"This would be a very significant injury," said Mike Tannenbaum, Former NFL Executive and Founder of The 33rd Team. "He’s a tremendous center and a tempo setter."

In his absence, the Buccaneers now have second-year player Robert Hainsey at center.

Jensen is coming off his first year being named to the Pro Bowl, and it comes after playing in 81 consecutive regular season games. He has proved to be a focal point of the Buccaneers' offensive line since the team acquired him in free agency making him the highest-paid center in the league.

Jensen was set to be a free agent this offseason, but a phone call from Tom Brady got him to resign with the team. Jensen signed a new deal for three years, $39 million dollars, without Brady he may not be a Buccaneer. Hopefully, Brady won’t be without his center for long, the team should know more after an MRI is completed later this morning.
