Raiders' Carr Focused on Football, Not Brady Drama

Derek Carr preseason

Derek Carr is ready to hear fewer questions about Tom Brady and alternate futures, and more about leading the Las Vegas Raiders this season.

While the NFL world has had several days to mull over the what-ifs of Tom Brady reportedly almost becoming a Raider, the current Raiders quaterback has had several days to deal with questions regarding his thoughts on Brady's potential move, and what it would have meant for his team and personal future.

Speaking with reporters after a joint practice with the New England Patriots on Tuesday, Carr was clear that he has moved on from the weekend's story, and is looking ahead to what's next on the Raiders' schedule.

"By now I would hope so," Carr said, when asked if he was becoming immune to the conversation surrounding he and Brady. "It is what it is."

On Saturday, news emerged that an unlikely source had nearly engineered a route for Brady to head to Vegas, replacing Carr as the team's starting quarterback. UFC President Dana White, in a conversation with longtime Brady teammate Rob Gronkowski on "UFC with the Gronks", revealed a deal was close for Brady to join Vegas in 2020. White said that then-Raiders head coach Jon Gruden stepped in to stop the agreement, and Gronkowski confirmed White's story.

The unexpected news left Carr fielding questions about nearly losing his spot as the face of the Raiders. Unsurprisingly, Carr is hoping the question he fielded after Tuesday's practice with the Patriots (ironically, Brady's longtime team) is the last he has to hear about all of it.

"It was a moment to really put things in perspective," Carr said. "It really doesn't matter, you know what I mean? At the end of the day, anything I say will just be blasted out there, so I'm just going to completely remove myself and just keep trying to play football. Its been nice just answering football questions. Hopefully no more drama in the city. That's what I hope."

The Raiders conclude the preseason on Friday against the Patriots. Carr could play for the first time this preseason after sitting out the team's first three games.

Vegas opens the regular season on the road Sept. 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
