Jerry Jones: Cowboys WR Gallup to Avoid PUP List

Michael Gallup

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup is not expected to start the 2022 NFL season on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, team owner Jerry Jones said on Wednesday.

"We just don't want to do anything that would put him in some kind of category that would limit us from getting him in the first game," Jones told reporters.

The move means that Gallup, who had surgery in February to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, will be added to the team's 53-man roster, giving him a shot to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Cowboys' Week 1 opener Sept. 11.

Gallup played in eight games in 2021, with 35 receptions for 445 yards and two touchdowns. He sustained the ACL tear against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17 last January.

When not injured, Gallup has been one of the Cowboys' top receiving options alongside CeeDee Lamb. Potential other options at the position include Simi Fehoko, Dennis Houston, Jalen Tolbert, Noah Brown and special teams ace KaVontae Turpin.

The Cowboys have until Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline to make their final decisions about the wide receiver depth chart.
