Cowboys Agree to Terms With Veteran OT Jason Peters

Attempting to find a solution to their issues at left tackle heading into the regular season, the Dallas Cowboys agreed to terms with veteran offensive tackle Jason Peters on Monday. The 40-year-old lineman will begin his Cowboys tenure on the practice squad and work his way up the depth chart.
Peters will serve as a veteran presence for the Cowboys, who lost All-Pro Tyron Smith to a torn hamstring two weeks ago that will likely shelve him for the entire 2022 season. Peters, a nine-time Pro Bowl player, will now be a division rival of his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
"Jason Peters is one of the toughest players that I have ever been around," said The 33rd Team's head of scouting, T.J. McCreight. "If he can play, he will certainly be on the field. He is not the player that he once was, and I saw a considerable drop off in his play in 2020. I hope the Cowboys have a backup plan for their backup plan."
A native of Bowie County, Texas, Peters now has an opportunity to not only end his career with his hometown team, but help them win the division and contend for a Super Bowl.
Both Peters and Smith earned 13 Pass Blocking Total Points according to Sports Info Solutions in 2021, plus 10 Run Blocking Total Points, and 23 Blocking Total Points. However, Smith did so in 4 fewer games and roughly 150 fewer snaps so he was more efficient per play.
Peters could become only the sixth offensive lineman to play an NFL game in his 40s, joining Andrew Whitworth, Ray Brown, Bruce Matthews, Jackie Slater and Jeff Van Note.
