Scouting Overview

Oregon State Beavers offensive tackle Gerad Christian-Lichetenhan will warrant significant consideration simply based on the uncoachables. There’s a lot of refinement required, and Christian-Lichtenhan does not sport a starter profile when entering the league.

However, people this size simply don’t grow on trees. His hulking presence boasts power at the point of attack and a large area of influence at first contact. With nearly an 85.5-inch wingspan and sufficient short-area movement skills, the foundation is worth an investment.

Positives

  • Hilariously large area of influence thanks to size and wingspan at the line of scrimmage
  • Plays a mean brand of football that puts a lot of strain and stress on defensive linemen through the whistle
  • Moves better in pass sets than you’d expect for such a high-hipped player

Negatives

  • Everything about him is big, including his pads and chest — which leave him exposed to hand strikes
  • Will struggle with both initial and secondary leverage, putting added stress on his core strength
  • Mirror skills are limited, and rushers who can coax him off-spot can manipulate his angles

Background

Christian-Lichtenhan is from Fremont, CA, and played high school football for Davis Senior HS. There, he was a 2-star recruit (247 Sports) who enrolled at Colorado as a member of the program’s 2020 recruiting class. Christian-Lichtenhan redshirted his true freshman season in 2020 and then went on to play in 33 games for the Buffaloes from 2021-2023. There were 19 starts included in that stretch of time.

After the 2023 season, Christian-Lichtenhan entered the transfer portal as a 3-star transfer (247 Sports) and landed with Oregon State. He served in 12 games as a starter for the Beavers and logged in excess of 800 snaps on the season.

To culminate Gerad’s college career, he accepted an invitation to the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl

Tale Of The Tape

Christian-Lichtenhan is a mean, physical player who attempts to play a bully brand of football that dictates terms at the line of scrimmage and creates displacement in the run game. He’s built as a hulking presence to play on the edge, but that frame does work against him in some phases of the position.

Firing out of the blocks, Christian-Lichtenhan has sufficient burst release and quickness. He’s an effective collision player on combination blocks and will create wash or knockback with his punch and pads before parlaying off of the first level and climbing to linebackers. Teams that look to run inside zone, duo, and counter schemes will likely find his playside displacement useful to help create clear lands and winning angles.

With his stature, he can be an effective seal blocker early in reps, and he’s difficult to play off of if he can get defenders in a chest-to-chest position. His monstrous wingspan aids his gravitational pull, and he plays with the chippiness to maintain an advantage through the rep.

His wingspan is a predominant element of his pass protection profile as well. He’s got sufficient ability to drive out of his stance and get set up for rushes and with such a big strike zone he has more wiggle room than most to throw hands early and initiate contact.

As you’d expect for such a tall body, he gives up a lot of surface area for rushers who can force missed punches and get into his frame to rock him back on his heels. His center of gravity is high, and he can get rolled back, putting him into recovery mode and exposing a modest anchor due to leverage. Christian-Lichtenhan boasts modest foot speed, and when forced to set wide angles, he can be isolated and struggle to slide and reset his feet accordingly.

Most of his movements are long because, well, he’s long. His punch timing can be telegraphed to high-end and quick-reaction rushers. For as good as his initial thud can be in the run game, he too often ends up leaning through contact because the step frequency can’t match the initial push.

Playing within his athletic profile is the next step for Christian-Lichtenhan to maximize his potential, but he should be considered a developmental tackle.

Ideal Scheme Fit, Role

Christian-Lichtenhan projects as a developmental left tackle in a gap scheme. His linear releases give him the opportunity to win first contact coming downhill, at which point his size can help him seal gaps.

His hand technique and timing, plus his efficiency framing blocks, must be refined before he’s ready for NFL action.
