Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Rhyan shows above the line explosiveness as his initial steps off the line are fast and fluid as he fits up the defender. His speed getting out on screens is average as he is able to pick up defenders. He has above the line bend and flexibility in his knees as he gets into a blocking position. Rhyan does show some struggle climbing to the second level where can get get up on his toes and have high pad level leading to coming into LB's off balanced. His change of direction is average as he can struggle with rushers crossing his face. He shows adequate play strength as his bend and explosiveness allows him to move defenders out of their gaps.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Rhyan has adequate run blocking abilities. His explosiveness and fits are well developed. He will need to work on body control when defenders counter. His pass blocking is average. His athleticism and punch allow him to stun defenders but he can open up his set too early leading to a soft edge or making him vulnerable to the defender stunting inside. When he is in good position, his anchor is average as he does not concede much ground due to his large frame. He also tends to have wide hands on his pass sets leaving his chest exposed. Rhyan's second level ability is average. He will need to work on balance and keeping a lower pad level with all cleats in the ground so he does not get knocked over.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Sean Rhyan started all 31 games he played in. He has the frame and durability. His run blocking is pretty well developed as I see him more favorably in a gap/power scheme offense. His athleticism and lack of arm length means he will probably slide into guard, with the ability to go back out to tackle. His pass blocking should benefit on the inside better as well being in a more enclosed space. He will definitely need to develop his second level abilities along with hand placement and change of direction in pass sets. He will be a solid back up with potential to develop into a starter. Day 3 pick.
