Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Average explosiveness for the safety position. Has ability to come downhill quick rather than fast. Speed is limited. Lacks that elite speed at the position, cannot make up ground if beat in coverage and takes poor angles to the football in run support, which does not help his top end speed. Poor body control, awkward in open space. Lacks lower body flexibility. Looks as though his feet are on skates. Flexibility and bend is average. Plays high post snap in back pedal and in coverage. Limited in COD, creates an extra hitch in his step while changing direction. Play strength is average. Will fight through blocks against OL/TE. Tendencies to go around OL which creates larger alleys for the run.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Back pedal is average. Patient and flexible in drop pre snap, but post snap reverts back to playing high with no bend or flexibility in lower half. Twitch/suddenness is average. Demonstrates quick and efficient movements to help with his burst to close. Burst to close ability is adequate. Ability to come downhill more quick and explosive than fast. Strengths to his game closing the distance between him and the ball carrier. Plant and drive is limited. Does not drive his feet and stops on contact between the tackles. Run support is average, hIs open field tackling is adequate. Does not miss many open field tackles and wraps up the ball carrier to ensure the tackle. Feels more comfortable tackling in space than between the tackles. Shows poor angle fits in the alley which makes him have to chase ball carriers instead of catching them head on. Hip fluidity is poor, looks unnatural opening his hips and seems tight in that area. Average cover ability, shows signs disguising coverages well, struggles playing man to man, but can handle zone. Playing a low zone player covering the flats. Limited ball skills. Inability to track the ball in the air. Needs to improve.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Cole SR DB at Louisville, started all 13 games for Louisville in 2021. Initially started his college career at Alcorn State University, being a two-time HBCU All-American in 2018 and 2019. Cole sat out the 2020 season due to Covid-19. He transferred to Louisville for his senior season. In 2021, earned All-ACC honorable mention. Achieved this under Scott Satterfield (Head Coach) and Bryan Brown (Defensive Coordinator). Cole projects as a backup to practice squad strong safety in the NFL, who can contribute on special teams. Cole has an adequate effort and motor that will track and chase down plays passed the LOS, burst to close is adequate as he shows the ability to come downhill quickly and closing the distance between him and the ball carrier, and Cole demonstrates adequate open field tackling, which saves a lot of big plays from happening by him wrapping up the ball carrier. Overall, Cole needs to improve on his hip fluidity, body control, and plant and drive to reach his true potential in order to become a back up in the NFL. Undrafted prospect.
