Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

At the snap displays adequate foot speed in his pedal, when in off man coverage, does well keeping up with slots and TE showing above the line speed and explosive breaks at the top of routes. Exhibits adequate UOH fighting through the hands of the WR and making a play on the ball. Has the versatility to play in multiple zones, excels in underneath zones being able to drive on routes using his above the line explosive movement. Shows adequate range from hash to SL, can get his hips open to run underneath a WR in his half. When beat in coverage shows above the line recovery to get back into the play. In support of the run, has adequate effort and willingness to come up and make a tackle. Plays with explosive movement and best when in close quarters to the ball carrier. Lazy habits with limited eye discipline and gets flat footed on the hash. Limited when open field tackling, doesn't break down the runner and tends to fly by allowing for gains.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Sr. DB who started 31 of 43 games including 10 games in 2021. 2 star athlete from Plaquemine HS, featured an athletic background playing both sides of the ball in football while competing in track and field. Butler aligns at S for Louisiana-Lafayette's multiple defensive scheme, plays best when rolling down into underneath zones. ST starter, plays on punt team as a gunner. Developmental S who you can win with due to his athletic ability. Good speed and explosiveness allows him to break on routes and make a play on the ball while having the ability to play in underneath zones as a robber. Will have extra interest from teams due to his ability to play on ST as a gunner. Needs to develop his hip flexibility and COD in order to play better in deep zones, also needs to work on tackling consistency.
