Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Processes information quickly, pulls trigger quickly on opening. Doesn't panic against pressure and shows creativity on the fly, such as using off hand to throw away ball when pinned. Poised against pressure, showing feel in the pocket. Extremely tough runner. Competitor with high motor. … Slow to come off initial read and isn't quick with RPO reads. Will shorten throwing motion to avoid defenders, leading to incompletions. Can be a bit slow to slide, taking unnecessarily violent hits.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Adequate footwork in drop. Stares down defender to freeze in place, then resets feet quickly and has an incredibly quick trigger. Emphatic pump fake. Extremely compact release, with adequate placement on Screens. Above the line velocity on short to intermediate throws. Shows knowledge to protect in-breaking receivers from contact with placement. Above the line touch to hit intermediate Go/Seam routes. Above the line feel in the pocket without dropping eyes, comfortable climbing and flashing quick spin to break pocket. Clean mechanics in TOR, with no noticeable drop in accuracy or decisions. Adequate scrambler, reading defenders well and using tough, physical style to attack upfield shoulder and fall forward… Tends to drift from the pocket. Rarely goes through true progression, with preset half-field reads. Points plant foot inside, failing to fully torque core. Average weight transfer and doesn't follow through with lower half on throws. Average accuracy on intermediate throws. Extends motion on deeper passes, letting shoulders skew and resulting in limited accuracy deep. Average arm strength and anticipation, failing to properly lead receivers and floating balls into danger. Struggles to select velocity on passes. Troubling tendency to fumble with contact from behind or sides, likely due to grip strength/hand size, with 15 career fumbles.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
RS Junior who has started 27 of 37 career games with a 20-17 record, including all 13 in 2021 at 10-3. Four-star HS recruit who redshirted in 2018. Started first four games in 2019 but was injured and did not reclaim starting role from John Rhys Plumlee upon return. Won the job back in the offseason and started every game in 2020 and 2021, named 2020 Third-Team All-SEC and 2021 Second Team All-SEC while winning 2021 Conerly Trophy. Under HC Lane Kiffin (second season) and OC/QBs Coach Jeff Lebby (second season), player was starting QB in an extremely RPO- and Screen-heavy offense. Mid-tier backup QB you can win with given WRs who can separate with large catch radii. Intelligent passer with relatively clean mechanics and good touch. Too inaccurate and fumble-prone for consistent success, failing to elevate his supporting cast.
