Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Average instincts, patient to a fault, lacks decisiveness to take advantage of holes and struggles to identify/engage in Pass Pro. Limited motor/effort, poor leg drive on contact will go down quickly without much fight, particularly evident around the LOS as will consistently lose yards without his full forwards momentum. Limited toughness, will shirk contact by ducking down or bailing to the sideline.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Limited overall athletic ability with poor explosiveness and limited speed. Adequate body control, limited COD, and poor bend/flexibility, upright runner who keeps his body balanced and aligned to the LOS, plays a bit too rigid which hampers his COD in tight spaces and open field. Poor suddenness, is a runner who needs to gradually build his momentum. Limited play strength, won’t beat defenders in contact as a runner or as a blocker and will mostly lose physical engagements.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Limited ball security, 4 fumbles in 2021, 6 across his career. Average path discipline and Outside Run Ability, attempts to ride his OZ path but limited speed and poor explosion prohibits an outside threat. Poor inside run performance, doesn’t slip nicely through holes and has poor burst to make it to the second level, legs die on contact limiting his yards to gain, isn’t a physical runner. Deficient finisher in the open field and deficient MYM ability, limited stiff arm is his only real recourse for gaining additional yards, otherwise limited speed, poor power and deficient agile moves will not threaten NFL defenders. Average receiving ability, has adequate hands, though only poor open field YAC limits his overall effectiveness; was used often on swing routes but will struggle to run anything over the middle due to limited COD. Poor Pass Pro, looks a bit lost in the backfield, is slow to recognize blitzers and ultimately transition to his route if no threats materialize, when he does meet a rusher has an adequate base/balance to work from but UOH, play strength and effort to win the engagement are all below the line.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Leddie Brown is a Senior from West Virginia who has featured in 43 career games. Three-star RB prospect, No. 553 nationally in 2018, according to 247 Sports. Played in 11 games as a Freshman with 441 yards and 4 TDs, and continued to contribute as a reserve/ rotational back in 2019. Elevated to starter as a Junior in West Virginia’s wide-open spread attack, running for 1,035 yards, 9 TDs as he went on to be nominated to the All-Big 12 First Team. Returned for his Senior year in 2021 and produced another productive year of 1,106 yards and 13 TDs. Leddie Brown is likely only a borderline roster prospect for NFL teams. He’s been productive in a Power 5 conference for 4 years but will need to show the NFL that he can be a true game-breaker rather than simply a product of West Virginia’s spread attack.
