Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Very tough and physical player that is aggressive at the POA. He has been able to withstand the violence at LB and on the DL. Smart player who has been able to play multiple positions but lacks some of the quick play diagnosis at LB. High motor player who flies around the field.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Explosive athlete especially when coming out of a 2 point stance off the edge. More quick than he is fast. Speed is shown off when closing in on a tackle but it not gonna be a sideline to sideline type backer. Impressive play strength, as evidenced by his block destruction ability. … Can pursue out of control and too high, as he overpursues and gets juked out. Only average flexibility, as his tightness gives him a hard time dipping his shoulder and bending the corner.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Luketa is a physical player who can defeat blocks in a number of ways. He takes adequate backside pursuit angles and has adequate closing speed. He is very physical throughout the tackle and shows above the line hip explosion to deliver a blow. ... Due to playing multiple positions, he lacks adequate play diagnosis, as too often he is tricked by pullers or makes a read too slowly, allowing blockers to cut him off with ease. He takes below-average pursuit angles to the football, as he often overpursues and dives at the feet of the ball carrier. Lacks the high-level athleticism and route recognition to be effective in coverage.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Luketa is a tough evaluation as he was a traditional off-ball LB in the first few years of his college career before playing mostly DE in this past year. He was productive and flashed some pass-rush potential in 2021 but his size and skillset project him best as an off-ball LB. He has the physicality and quickness to be an effective player at the next level. That said, he lacks the run block and route recognition, as well as the high-level athleticism required to thrive at the LB position in the NFL. He can come in and immediately impact the special teams and projects best as a developmental 4-3 SAM, who can, ideally, play closer to the ball in a blitzing role.
