Build

Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Above the line height and weight. Tall, built frame, with strength that is clearly evident on film. Frame/durability does not appear to be a concern, Emezie played 5 years at college with no notable injuries, nor did he appear to miss any games.

Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Toughness is above the line, evident through both his strength at his release when jammed and through his ability to stay on his route if he is playing against physical DBs. He is always willing to get physical with defenders and his strength helps him stay available through contact and compete for balls through traffic. Instincts are adequate, he shows a good ability to take reflex catches, and proved himself to be a great asset in the endzone, particularly when balls were thrown away from him, as he adjusted well to make catches. His ability to process zone concepts and find empty areas to sit when running hook/curl routes could be improved however. He struggles to consistently find open spaces, often running curls directly next to defenders, or failing to manipulate his matchup to gain separation. Effort/Motor is average, he was frequently seen not fully committing to scramble drills or run-blocking assignments.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Explosiveness and speed are average, he is missing burst through his release and his lack of top-end speed is evident. It takes him a while to close down cushions vs off coverage and this limits his potential as a deep threat. Body control is outstanding, he is able to fight through heavy physical contact from DBs, stay upright on his route and fixated on running his path and keep a good eye on the ball. Can be trusted to consistently fight through contact and make a play on the ball through traffic. Change of direction is above the line, he is able to use quick footwork and immediate deceleration to make quick turns, gaining consistent separation.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Release is poor, Emezie doesn't have acceleration to reach his top speed quickly and close cushions and does sometimes get trapped in press coverage as his only method to get into space is to be physical. He should be used more in short and intermediate routes, as his route running when required to change direction is above the line, giving him an opportunity to use his quick footwork to get into space. He possess an adequate ability to gain yards after the catch, primarily through his physicality, as he is able to break through the first tackle and gain extra yardage. His vertical threat is average due to his lack of speed as DBs are able to match his deep routes step-for-step. In run blocking assignments, he appears to position himself poorly, often missing assignments and letting defenders run free to make a tackle on the ballcarrier.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Emeka Emezie is a 3 star recruit from Marvin Ridge High School, North Carolina. He spent 5 full seasons at NC State, collecting a total of 229 receptions for 2,895 yards and 19 TDs. A tall, strong receiver that was used primarily as a Z on deep routes, despite his lack of final speed or acceleration. Ran a relatively simple route tree consisting predominantly of go, post and curl routes. Emezie is a receiver who can find success in the league in the short and intermediate regions of the field. He displays good footwork and deceleration abilities to gain separation on curl, hook, slant, dig and out routes. He needs to improve his positioning on run blocking assignments and his effort and with this, has the potential to be a rotational receiver in the league.
