Build

Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Prototypical height and adequate length for the position. However, he has a thin, very lean muscular frame, weighing just 240 lbs. He has room to add muscle and weight to his frame. Has not missed games due to injury.

Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Adequate toughness to battle in the trenches despite being at a constant weight disadvantage. Malone has above the line instincts as he had a great knack for finding the football and making plays. Above the line motor that was improved from the year previous, as he chased down ball carrier all across the field.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Explosive athlete who bursts off the snap with above the line speed. He has outstanding flexibility to dip his shoulder and accelerate around the corner to get pressure on the tackle. He is an above the line athlete who can change direction fluidly and is very mobile in space. Length allows him to have power but is still heavily outmatched in terms of strength.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Rushes out of a 3 point or 2 point stance, as he quickly gets upfield out of his stance. He has the length and tight hands to set an edge in the run game. He accelerates up the field and threatens with speed. He has the flexibility to bend the corner and accelerate to get a hit on the QB. He does not only win with speed though, as he has an experienced toolbox of rushes, utilizing very effective quick/efficient feet to pair with arm-over and rip moves to get to the QB. He does a great job finding the ball and possesses the closing speed to track the ball carrier and make an effective tackle. ... Could continue developing counter moves and does not have the overwhelming speed to purely rely on that especially when rushing on longer tackles. Functional strength and weight are lacking for the NFL level and is consistently overmatched at POA by C-USA tackles. He often pursues out of control and doesn't break down, leading to him getting juked out.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Malone is one of the most accomplished players in the entire draft class. He is tall and long but is very light. Despite the lack of weight, he held his own for the most part but was playing against lower competition. He will likely not be able to survive at the same weight at the next level, so he will need to gain functional strength. Malone is an above the line pass rusher, as he possesses high-level athleticism and a number of moves in the pass rush, as he was very productive in college. He fits best as a 3-4 OLB at the next level as a situational pass rusher. He is likely too light to play against the run but can still be an effective stand-up rusher with some versatility to drop into coverage if need be. He also adds value on special teams.
