Has a tendency to come in out of control and without his feet under him, which can lead to putting himself at a disadvantage when facing shifty ball carriers. Has above the line play strength when engaging blockers at the line of scrimmage and on the edge, and shows visible shock value on contact.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Has adequate closing speed on the edge, and rolls hips through contact for impressive power when executing form tackles. Shows merely adequate block shedding ability despite his strength and physicality in the hole, mainly due to getting too close into the chest of blockers by throwing a shoulder instead of punching when filling. Takes sufficient pursuit angles to the ball from the back side of the play. Is not afraid of any form of contact and displays outstanding physicality in all phases. Gets good depth in his zone drops and actively reads the QBs eyes while patrolling his zone. Can be a too willing to vacate his zone in favor of chasing down scrambling QBs which can lead to easy completions by WRs filling in behind him. Has the size and physicality to match up with TEs in man coverage. Can match up with running backs out of the backfield as well, but quicker backs can take advantage of his change of direction. As a blitzer he can generate pressure immediately when left as a free rusher, but often lacks an overall plan of attack if he is blocked immediately and does not use his hands well as a rusher.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Chad Muma appeared in 43 career games over 4 years at Wyoming, with 20 starts. Father was a two-time letterman for Wyoming in the early '90s. Contributed immediately on special teams while working his way into the role of full-time starter. Saw a jump in his level of production in every season, culminating in a 1st Team All-Conference worthy final year that saw him finish as one of the nation's leaders in total tackles and be named a Butkus Award finalist. He aligned almost exclusively as an in the box, but would occasionally slide out to the slot against TEs or to the edge as an overhang. Projects as a scheme versatile inside linebacker at the next level whose main contributions will come as a punishing two-down run defender. Can have an immediate special teams impact while he develops and competes for a starting spot.
